Our defense isn’t great based on what?

Based on the rankings our defense is ranked 8th which is very good but it’s not great. This is not a transcendent defense so don’t get carried away. We’ve had some bad defensive games this year against Denver and the Raiders. I didn’t think the defense was particularly good against New Orleans. We almost coughed up a huge lead against Washington in the final four minutes two weeks ago. Since we’ve gotten players back our defense has improved but we benefited the last three games by playing against average QBs that are turning the ball over left and right. We couldn’t shutdown Brady or Pat Mahomes this season. Big difference between those two QBs and Taylor Heinicke and Mike Glennon. We’re winning with takeaways right now and our defense has been stellar at taking the ball away but we can’t count on multiple takeaways every week. Our offense and QB has got to start showing up and putting the ball in the endzone.

My take is that I think this team could click for a big game and take down the Rams or Bucs to reach the NFC Championship. However, I can't see us backing it up at Lambeau unless the Packers' o line is depleted and we are able to put Rodgers under constant pressure like the Bucs did last play offs.

We want to avoid the 49ers in the first round given they will be the only good wild card team. Arizona will still make the play offs but they are done. The Rams broke their spirit and will win the division.

I see the Colts as the team to beat in the AFC. If they had Herbert (or Rodgers obviously) then I would fancy them for the Superbowl. Despite what some believe, having watched the Colts play pretty much every game, Wentz has largely played very well this season, especially early on when the O Line was poor. But he still makes the occasional boneheaded decision and throw which could cost them in a tight game.

I just want the Cowboys to avoid the 49ers in the first round. We do not want them. Then the fun and games can begin.
