Fitting it came down to clock management at the end

Now it didn’t lose the game for them but it didn’t allow them a chance to win the game. For all you that said it’s no big deal, it didn’t cost them, some of us on here said it is and it will cost them eventually in a big spot. That play was a terrible play call there and factoring in the time left should never ever had been called. Hell they coulda ran the same play they ran to Pollard again if they wanted to if they wanted to get 10-15 to take a shot at the end zone. How fitting though and then of course you have the idiots defending the play.

Four biggest issues this season were (not necessarily in order) were (a) Clock Management (b) Slow Starts (c) Penalties and (d) Kicking (FGs / XPs).

3 of them (a,b, and c) happened yesterday and collectively sunk the ship.

Why in all hell did they rush to run a play before the 2 minute warning?

We woukd have had 2nd and 11, 3 timeouts, 2 minutes left st the 49ers 47 down by 6.

Utterly no football iq under pressure
Probably because they knew they were going to run out of time

i also dont understand the play after the fake punt. they were embarrassed last week they lost a timeout. but what was having the 49ers lose a timeout going to mean vs. having time to setup your offense much less take a penalty

Listen to the post game press conference. McCarthy explained it. They weren't trying to force a timeout. We were planning to run a play with the special teams still on field but a Dallas player came on the field so they let SF substitute. So then Dallas put their O back in but ran out of time.

When McCarthy was making curious end of half and end of game decisions earlier in the year, I kept saying he's going to cost us in a critical spot.

Well, it showed up again last night.

Hahahaha.

What kind of explanation is that?

Really? In the playoffs? I guess they had a real good option run play or something. I guess.

If you watch the replay, Dak starts his slide at the 27 yard line, that's where the ball should have been spotted. The ball was actually spotted at the 24. If the ref puts the ball where it is supposed to go, time runs out anyway. Dumb teams do dumb things...

It was more lack of situational awareness on the QB and possible a lack of preparation from the HC. The draw play was a success to set up for a higher percentage last shot at the end zone. However, Dak took it too far downfield and should have handed the ball to the Ref after the slide.

It's not like they were going to win with another play. They couldn't do much for 59 minutes and 59 seconds.

That was a huge mistake that cost them 40 seconds and 5 yards.

They tried to get cute far too many times this season and it cost them their season yesterday.

Definitely a karma type moment where all the evidence shown in earlier games this season showed it's full impact in the biggest game of the season.

Many here questioned clock management as a pretty important factor that this head coach had shown extreme lapses in judgment on earlier.

Well, it did end up costing them yet again unfortunately.

I thought the same thing. There was no need to rush at the time and risk a hurried play.

They weren't though. 2 minutes and 3 timeouts to go 47 yards isn't running out of time. Hell, there was enough time left that even after the Cowboys turned the ball over on downs the Cowboys were able to force a 49er punt and got one more possession.

The smarter thing would have been to let the clock go to the 2 minute warning and plan their next play rather than try and rush a precious play at that point in the game.

That's a good point.
