People talk about culture to the point of overkill

But honestly, watching the Cowboys of the last few weeks, it's clear there is a culture problem of some sorts.

A team that has a strong leader, whether players or a HC, doesn't turn into a bunch of whiners about officiating. But I don't think I have ever seen a team whine as much about officiating over a 2-3 week period as much as this team, culminating in their "star" QB stupidly saying that he was OK with fans throwing things at the officials. Sure, he probably doesn't mean it and upon reflection he probably realizes it was dumb, but in that moment he clearly was whining about officiating.

The team didn't lose against Arizona due to officiating. They didn't lose to the 49ers because of officiating.

They lost because their run game was anemic in both games. They lost because there were constant breakdowns along the OL. They lost because their QB simply didn't play well and was missing guys. They dropped passes. They missed blocks. They had stupid, brain dead penalties.

That's why they lost. But in moments like this, you see the soul, the makeup of the team when you lose and one of the battle cries is the officials, especially in a game where frankly, almost all those penalties were the right call.

In many cases, one could purge this kind of excuse making with a HC changing, a flame thrower to the staff to send a message. But unfortunately, this is a culture grown by the GM/owner. He's self-entitled and pampers these guys so the team, save for some exceptions, operates the same way.

It's shame because honestly, I think there is a framework here that a real GM and a real HC could work with. But like other teams in the past that had the pieces that just needed a touch here and a direction from a quality coaching staff, this team is just going to keep doing what they always do. Spit the bit in big games and then think it was everyone else's fault but theirs.

Setting team records for playoff futility, players whining to the media about officials, and fans throwing stuff at refs after the game.

I don't even recognize this franchise anymore. Soft, can't win a big game, idiot owner still playing GM at 80. It's become a comedy show.

A teams long term success is defined by 4 positions: the owner, the GM, the HC and the QB

as far as fans looking for championships are concerned we have a garbage owner, an incompetent buffoon for a GM, average HC, and average QB

no franchise can win this way

Kyle Shannahan and John Lynch have developed a system that gets them hard nosed physical players who seem to love to play for Kyle.

Jerry is a great owner. GM? Not so much. There’s the problem.

who has hired the idiot GM and kept him with no accountability despite 26 years of proven garbage?

if you can’t see that he is a trash owner for fans who are interested in SBs you are blind

The culture has always been a problem. This year it went in the tank: entitlement, whining, excuse making, you name it, with the full consent and enabling of coaching and management.

Well, when you talk about the failure of the Dallas Cowboys since 1996, you can't have that conversation without talking about the culture Jerry Jones has fostered. Parcels tried to change it but Jerry ran him off.

There’s been a culture problem with the Cowboys since almost day 1 of the Jerry ownership…
You had the White House, incidents involving players like Irvin, Haley, Big E etc… but Jimmy kept it under control to a certain extent and on the field the players still performed to the highest level.
Once Jimmy left, the lunatics were left in charge and apart from the Parcells era, you get the feeling it’s never been truly under control.
Too many players who seem to think that wearing the star, means they’ve become elite…

Not accurate . Zekes dragging one leg in a brace Daks wanting in against Minn with a bad leg Pollard tears his foot up gets back a lot quicker then thought Parsons is battling a week after covid …I’m disappointed but MM rolling his eyes on the sideline has me questioning his leadership going forward a lot more then are the Cowboys “ tough enough “ …

Shoot, didn't see your thread.

It's a toxic environment when the Boss is the biggest fan of the players.

He won a SB a decade ago. Since then, he fizzled out.

If you think he's a good coach, have at it. You'll end up like all those Garrett fans who kept believing he was the one.

No, I can just separate his role as owner from that of GM, which he should not be. That doesn’t change the fact he’s a good owner. I can see the trees and the forest. If you want to look at the single fact the he hasn’t hired someone else to be the GM makes him a failure as an owner, more power to you. There’s much more to being an owner than that and he excels at all the other stuff. Believe me, I’d LOVE it if he’d hire someone and just stick to being the owner, but again, I can separate the two. Obviously you can’t and that’s OK.

There are two Jerry's.

One Jerry is a shrewd business guy and frankly one of the driving forces in the explosion of the league, its marketing, it's TV revenues, etc. If we had that Jerry full time who had a regular GM, he'd be one of the best owners in the league.

Unfortunately, there is another Jerry. The Jerry who fancies himself a football mind. That's the Jerry we need to get rid of. You also can't separate the two. So that's why we are where we are.

And if you want to drill further, Jerry the Hirer of Coaches, is the biggest fraud in the entire organization. There is nothing more that he sucks at than hiring coaches.
