What is the difference between Payton and McCarthy

McCarthy has lost interest in changing or adapting his offense to fit the players he has. He's just collecting a check. There's no drive in him.

Payton has done exactly that without a traditional QB. Finds ways to make things work even without the HOF QB.

If you think they are the same, you are not paying attention.

Ok but we’re just talking “rumors” here among fans. It’s not at all clear that Jerry would give up control to anyone. I would love to believe otherwise, but again rumors are not the same as facts.

It’s not rumors here. It’s all over national media. The national media would kill the rumors if something as clear as control was a deal breaker. This isn’t a new rumor either. This is years and years running. It would have been squashed long ago. Not to mention the reports that came out earlier that a deal was already in place in 2019.

Drew Brees had 59 starts as a Charger. They were so impressed by his first 43 they drafted Phillip Rivers.

Drew Brees was nothing special in SD (80 TDs, 53 INTs). He became a star with Payton. Kind of hard to think it was entirely a coincidence.

You won't get a real answer to this thread question because there isn't a difference. They've been the same dude for well over a decade. Payton's just not here to blame right now like he was in 2005 and everyone knew he sucked and needed to go.
