This has to be a non-Jerry draft-fix the trenches

There is a lot of depth at guard but assuming Williams isn't retained, after the top two or three they would be better off with McGovern or Farniok day one to give them some time to develop.

If Linderbaum is gone I like the Center from UK who can also play guard. He can make all the line calls like Fredrick used to do.
When looking at centers, we need to pay attention to anchor ability. This has been the issue prior and post Travis Frederick. So will question Linderbaum's size and length, but he has shown to hold up in that area in a top conference.

True, we already have someone that can get pushed back. I haven't really studied it but I've seen comments that Linderbaum is scheme specific so with our luck he probably doesn't fit our scheme but on the other hand he probably won't be there at 24 anyway. He may need an offseason but Fortner would be a good day two pick.

Overview
Center prospect with outstanding character, leadership and intelligence to go with position flexibility. Fortner has a proportional frame with adequate length and room to get bigger. He plays with above-average body control and hand usage to maximize his leverage and is consistent at the point of attack. He's not a bad athlete but has issues timing his work-up blocks, which limits his second-level success at times. He can tune-up the pass protection, but it's good enough as a foundation right now. Fortner is adequate in some areas and good in others. He could become a scheme-flexible starter in time.
Strengths
  • Team captain with elite personal character on and off the field.
  • Provides center/guard roster flexibility.
  • Snap-to-step quickness helps leverage the A-gap.
  • Fits block with bend and good hand placement.
  • Plays with the body control and balance of a pro.
  • Makes protection calls at the line.
  • Decent arm extension into initial pass-pro punch.
  • Plays with pressure recognition and finds work.

disagree with the Op completely, this team could do with more micah parsons.

His profile reads like more of a developmental Center. This is the type they may have to look at after Linderbaum.

Why are the OL not developing the strength needed for the NFL?

McGovern was bigger than CWill but couldn't anchor, why?
CWill couldn't anchor, but was very good getting to the second level-- why couldn't he anchor?

From what I can tell it is just a lack of strength in the lower body. How do they fix this?

Alarcon, Farinok, Biadasz, McGovern all need strength from what I have seen. If they get this in the off season, then what do we need another OL drafted highly for?

He has room for improvement but would compete for playing time his rookie season. The top three OGs are farther along. Right now pre-combine pro-day there are about 13-15 quality day one starters in the draft including Linerbaum but none of the OGs.

What I have read, both Green/Zion are plug and play starters day 1.

Remember we don't have a top 10 pick this yr, nor are they many high rated QB's. The odds of landing another Parsons talent is almost is very small. Certainly there will be surprises, but it looks like Parsons in a generational talent.

I would take either one and they would probably both start but they both have flaws that they will need to work on. They aren't up to Slater's level last year. I think both Green and whoever the best nose tackle is would be the biggest improvements we could make on each side of the ball.

No, Slater was a blue chip prospect and was a pro bowl LT last season.

true but i dont want to settle for choir boys anymore,it hasnt got us anywhere for a quarter century.

That's is what I mean by quality year one starter, just like Chase or Surtain or Parsons.
Those are future stars. We just want to upgrade need positions with taking the best player available

Jordan Davis probably would be gone but at 6’6 330 he might make a very nice wrecking ball in the inside to allow # 11 to do his thing on the edge. If he’s sitting four or five turns ahead of Dallas you have to see what price it takes to pair him up with a Gallimore and an OSA to beef the middle up .

I’m doing the opposite. I’m trying to move down and grab Dean and Salyer round two.

Because we focus way too much on OL draftees to be able to block at the 2nd level. Which means we draft for quickness and ignore brute strength.

Tyrone Smith had brute strength coming out of USC . 11 yrs is a long time in the trenches , need to come away with a starting tackle in this draft .

As did Zach. Oh, we can draft OL's in the first, when they have both mobility and strength. Our problem lies in taking them anywhere else. We can take anchor ability or we can take movement. We always take movement, and get guys who can't anchor.

I'm aiming a little higher. I want players that can alter the opponents game plan. When we played the Bucs we knew we weren't going to run inside so Moore had to come up with a quick short passing game to attack them. If we had a dominant NT our LBs could run free and we might be able to let Kearse or Wilson roam instead of run blitzing. When we had our best OL we ran the ball no matter what the front. When they started playing run first it opened up the passing game for Dak. A new LG and OC could do that for us. We may not be able to get the best OC who could be on the small side anyway but we could get the other two.
