Three Cowboys made their list ......
Actually, I read a tweet this week suggesting we tag Schultz

2022 NFL Free Agency: Most underrated free agent at every position

TE: DALTON SCHULTZ, DALLAS COWBOYS
Schultz is arguably the best tight end available in free agency, as he’s coming off a season in which he was the sixth-highest-graded and third-most valuable tight end in the NFL. Schultz is good at finding soft spots in zone, doesn't have an extensive injury history, adds value after the catch, wins at the catch point and holds his own in the run game. He ranked sixth or higher at the position last year in drop rate (3.4%), contested catch rate (63.2%, 12/19) and broken tackles after the catch (13). If Dallas is forced to let him walk, a team like Tennessee makes a lot of sense as a landing spot.

Sheesh . . . Don't they know in Cowboy Nation He gets a lot of the blame for Dak's struggles and there are fans that want to get rid of Him to make the offense more Dak compatible

I think he gets a bad rap because our offense of line under achieved so bad this year that he was expected to be a better blocker than he is.
He can work on his blocking but he is already a reliable passcatcher that we should try and hold on to.

Dak relies heavily upon Dalton Schultz to save his bacon on 3rd downs nowadays.
Let him go and he'll be hard to replace.:omg: He's also our most reliable receiver.

Schultz is also young enough to improve a lot as a blocker, afforded time to do so.

Don’t say that they’ll tag Schultz. They ripped my head off when I reported archer suggested it

Just a reminder.......Connor Williams AND Gregory also made their list.......

EDGE: RANDY GREGORY, DALLAS COWBOYS
Gregory has had a rocky NFL career with multiple suspensions, but he was a featured piece on the Cowboys’ defense this past season. He ranked 12th among qualifying edge defenders in pass-rush grade (84.7) and tied for sixth in pressure rate (15.5%). Teams may be cautious to sign Gregory given his history, an offseason knee surgery and role, but there is no denying his special tools. Between his lateral quickness, explosiveness and improved plan, Gregory showed he can generate value as a rotational pass-rusher.

G: CONNOR WILLIAMS, DALLAS COWBOYS
Yes, I know — the penalties are an issue, as Williams committed an NFL-leading 17 penalties in 2021 that led to being benched for a short stretch during the season. Even with all of those plays baked into the PFF grading system, Williams still finished as a top-10 graded guard for the 2021 season (75.2) and has been one of the NFL’s 15-most valuable guards in back-to-back seasons. The penalties should regress in 2022, as they weren’t an issue before. He’s not going to be one of the five highest-paid guards in free agency and likely will receive something akin to a three-year, $20 million deal. However, it doesn’t matter the scheme, if a team needs a guard, it should pursue Williams over the much pricier options.

Cowboys should work to retain Schultz and I would put him in that 2nd tier of TEs in the NFL. He's definitely undervalued here, but I struggle with a contract that pays him 12 to 14 million a year. There will be some interesting replacement options available for a fraction of the cost

TE is important though and if the Cowboys just plan to leave it up to Jarwin and a rookie they'll be doing the offense a disservice. I remember the struggle finding a TE between Novacek and Witten.

Literally , there’s not one person that does this. People in here don’t think he’s worth what he’s going to get on the open market, and they’re right.

The best thing we can do is let other teams overpay these guys. Offer a fair contract but i'm not giving any of them top money. The Cowboys have given out too many top contracts to good players who now can not live up to that contract on the field. you can not build a sustainable successful team doing that. It's likely Schultz can go to a team where he is the 3rd best option maybe 2nd and flurish.

No worries. The forum experts told me we can easily sign Schultz for what we’re paying Blake Jarwin.

Schultz became Checkdown Charlie for Prescott too often. I saw Prescott not take the reads or shots at WR's that were NFL open and Schultz became too convenient.

I have a theory as to why this started to happen. That contract. The additional light that the 3rd highest paid player in the league became more of a fear of making the mistakes than making the contested throws that could result in mistakes.

One thing I noticed about Prescott this season that was not there before. After a mistake in the past, he did not have that thousand yard stare. He started to get gun shy and his comments about bandwagon fans was a reveal about how he was feeling.......pressure.

That DC QB position is unlike any other in all sports and comes with its already built in pressure. That's why when Romo made that comment he didn't care what other people thought about him Aikman came to the rescue to set him straight. And this is not new, that ate Don Meredith up and caused him to hang it up early.

Dak Prescott is the Dallas Cowboys QB AND he makes 40M a year as the 3rd highest paid player in history. The heat is up and it's only going to get hotter.

……the only way for Connor Williams to stop getting called for holding is to get a Patriots, Steelers or Packers uniform on him

I see it as a return to some past tendencies along with not having Kitna around to tell him different.

https://www.dallascowboys.com/video/jon-kitna-no-holding-back

It was noticeable how much braver and more effective Dak became when he would get the defense to jump and have a ‘free play’. He needs more of that aggressive mindset, even if there might be more risk. No risk, no reward.

There’s not a chance that they can afford it.
They can. If they want.

Just matters how much you kick the can down the line. With guys like Cooper, Zeke, Lawrence all gone in the next few years they can afford to be aggressive

Bull****. But keep telling yourself that if you need to feel better.

No they can’t. Their cap situation is the very opposite of that.

The Cowboys are not going to franchise Schultz. If they do that, they take on his entire salary against the CAP. They need CAP relief in 2022 so if they do a deal it will have to be CAP friendly the next two years.

I think they need to sign Gregory if they can. But if someone offers him $18 million they have to let him go. If they can get him in the $12 million to $14 million range then they have to work it out somehow. To me, making this defense better has to be a priority because the offense is almost certainly going to be worse.

No, to Connor Williams. It is speculation that his penalties will come down in 2022. I suppose they could because he set such a low bar in 2021, but I would rather sign Austen Corbett off the Rams. He is a similar player to Williams without the penalties. I think the refs are looking for Williams to hold, after someone on another team tipped them off. He struggles with power rushers and that is not going to improve in 2022.

The problem for Dallas is they do not have CAP space. They can create some with restructures and some cuts, but every player they lose has to be replaced by a cheaper player and they are already a team that does not pay free agents. Just keep than in mind.
