The issue may come down to numbers on the game day roster. Can you carry two tackles that give you nothing in the pass rush?
I’m hoping on obvious pass downs the slide Dlaw inside with Micah and the new kid on the edges. Two speed rushers are hard to handle and Dlaw slipped inside some last year and it created some pressure

We had Bohanna last season....how much pass rush did we get from Brent Urban? I'm sure there will be some roster shenanigans to make it happen but I'm betting we keep both.

I was referring to have both on the game day roster, not so much about the team roster. It’s gonna be hard to have both active for games since the number of DT’s is limited and you need to rotate them along with your 3 tech

Golston can be RDE when dlaw moves in, and fowler and armstrong are options at LDE, the new guy will most likely not have a major role.
I’m hoping we can put the speed on the edges some
I doubt micah will line up at DE too much because I like him moving around and finding a weak spot
I think our options this year are as good as last with Gregory. Gregory was more disruptive than his stats showed but this kid could be just as disruptive

That would be great. I enjoyed watching the defense last year. If they take a step forward, it will be a good year.

I do not see the DT improvement and big isn't the problem, talent is. Do they think they're going to find another Ratliff at the end of the 3rd day?

Williams is a pass rusher more than a complete DE.

The run D is still suspect and they will face some teams that want to do just that. Like 2 of the 3 East opponents.

I like Quinn but the last good run D he had was in SEA with PBers all over that front 7 and coverage downfield.

The question I have is did they help their only real star on the front 7?

If ridgeway or bohanna do require double teams and the LB'ers are kept clean, the run defense might end up being good. I think it would have been better last year if urban had not gotten hurt

Wish for nothing but the best for both of them. Big Bo didn't really stand out much last year. I like the player but he needs to show something other than eating space to keep his spot.

Ridgeway looks like a player. I've only watched the Georgia game and don't have much to work off of but it wasn't hard to see how he affected defensive play when he was in. It should be noted that the Razorback linebackers were awful. JR either occupied two blockers, giving lanes for the lb's to shoot and make the play....or he was single blocked and more often than not blew the play up himself. He's strong at the point of attack and maintains good pad levels for the most part but there were times he was caught off balance and ended up on the ground. It was far from a regular occurrence, but it did happen. Not much in terms of pass rush but he wasn't a ghost out there either.

If he's not doubled, he's going to be a problem for most guards and centers. This opens up single blocks for Micah, DLaw, and the rest of the bunch which I imagine will lead to more pressure. He's stout against the run and does a pretty good job disengaging blockers to make the play if it's in his neighborhood. Looks like a plug and play 1t and should help upgrade the run defense immediately. I like this pick alot and think he has the tools to be a strong asset for the team.
I agree with eveything except your comment about the Razorbacks linebackers. They were very good and one even won a postseason award for being very good.

Initially, i thought this would be a battle for a spot between these two...

Jerry said that they were happy for the change in philosophy and to have two behemoths.

Said it was an effort to get better in the playoffs....i like it.

Marinelli would have tried to get Bohanna to lose weight down to about 290 to make him a better pass rusher.
- That literally happened with a DT back then.
- I can't remember the player's name off the top of my head, but he went from about 325 one season down to 300 the next season.

Bohanna never impressed me. But if he shows improvement this year he might. Ridgeway will be much the same. Together though they might and I stress might be solid up the middle.

I was wondering if they were going to add another NT to go along with another OLB and they did.

We are definitely a hybrid front because DLaw, DA, and Basham are on the roster and have no business moving inside to the 4. With this draft, now we have starters and depth for an even or odd front.
Playing time will be match-up dependent.

The playing time for DT Justin Hamilton last season was interesting.
- He went back and forth from being inactive to played ~45% of snaps as the 4th or 5th DT.

It will be a battle some weeks with regards to being on the active roster.
- Last season in some games they had a high percent of snaps by 3 'bigs' while in other games 1 of those players (Hamilton) was not even active.
- There will likely be some games where regardless of how well the 'bigs' are performing, that one of them will be inactive.

Ridgeway just looks like the more active player. Better motor and stronger in the upper body. Doesn’t guarantee that he pushes Bo off the team. You’re going to get the best of whatever Ridgeway has got. He will be prepared and he ain’t gonna back down form anyone on that OL.
Ridgeway was definitely a better college player than Bohanna.
- Bohanna was often too heavy and therefore only played a very limited percentage of snaps.
