Contrast that to Augusta National for the Masters. You could get a Blue Moon, for example, for $5. Between that and a pimento cheese sandwich, you had lunch for like $7.50.

Yep

The Masters is famous for their bargain like concessions. But their ticket prices are brokered for $2,000 and up . Much like a Super Bowl.

Unfortunately this price gauging concessions at major sporting events is becoming more of the norm. Nice to see some athletes calling it out.

I dropped an obscene amount of money in their pro shop too. LOL.

I’m sure but I’ve heard from a couple friends it’s not as bad as you’d think in pricing . He got me a nice Masters golf shirt for under $50. But I’m sure I’d spend a ton on multiple items if I was there as well.

You can write in for tickets in advance for Masters which are only a few hundred for entire tournament . That’s how he got his tickets . Wanna say one day pass was under a $100. About 4 or 5 years ago.

The prices aren't that out of whack. You can get a Peter Millar shirt in most golf shops for $100-125 and they weren't all that different price wise at Augusta. The problem is that you tell yourself you may never be back there so you buy too much crap. LOL. Christ, I bought a Masters dog collar for our dog for $35!

definite price gouging but the target audience is older and more wealthy.

No one is holding a gun up to their heads making them pay those prices.

I think the prices are not price gouging so much as discouraging excessive drinking. The Masters where food and beverage are cheap is an exception to the general rule b/c they have a generational crowd. The PGA championship has lets say 50k new fans attending every year as they move the tourney. The masters has 50k veteran fans of the masters every year with very few new faces in the crowd. Masters tickets are held for decades on end and if you put yourself on the wait list right now, the odds are that in 50 years, you still won't have the tickets. So, the penalty for misbehaving is quite severe. If you get wasted at the Masters and misbehave , they not only throw you out but also confiscate your badge and ability to ever buy it again. The result is the most well behaved crowd in sport.

Masters is quite the exception. They’ve always had a reputation for bargain concessions .

At those prices should've gotten a strong drink, it was probably only a few dollars more.

There’s no justifiable excuse for price gauging.

Like Justin Thomas said, it’s not fair to fans. It’s a very good public stance to take.

They are 25oz tallboys, which is about $9 a beer. That isn’t outrageous, right on par with other sporting events.

Six bucks for a bottled water is highway robbery though….

The concession stand beer case with Michelob Ultra is seen during a practice round prior to the start of the 2022 PGA Championship.

If you're drinking Michelob Ultra you should have to pay $18 for drinking Michelob Ultra. It's punishment for caring more about your weight than good alcohol. I went to the Masters practice round in 2019 and I think I paid about $5 for a beer. I realize their concessions are known for being cheap but that's still quite a leap. While I don't think it's outrageous compared to other sports venues, it was already widely rumored that Jay Monahan the Commish was going to do something to temper the crowds after the craziness at the Phoenix Open, and $18 a beer will put a kink in the hose.

The Brisket BBQ sandwich I had at the Masters was some of the best BBQ I've ever had....I think it was $5 tops....I think a domestic beer was $4 in a 16oz cup
