Tyler Smith not running with the 1s

I know it’s only Day 1 of mini camp but it’s being said that Tyler is not practicing in the “starting five” and McGovern is still the LG.

I know I’m being hyperbole but when do YOU start to worry if Tyler is still not practicing in the top 5?

I think I start getting nervous if he’s not practicing at that spot in Oxnard.

That guy on talent alone is within our "best five."

Sends the right message by not anointing him.

Although, this doesn't really sound like us, it's probably an injury of some small sort.

He will be eased into it, but like others already said, Tyler Smith has to earn a starting role. No need to panic at this time.

Nothing has changed with first-rounder Tyler Smith, going in with the second team offensive line at left guard behind Connor McGovern, but joining the first team at left tackle when Tyron Smith doesn't take all the snaps. Seems to be settling in better at both spots

No shame in that, really -- McGovern supposedly has had a big summer in the weight room and has gained considerable muscle. Maybe that's a factor in him being rewarded with more reps in practice. I'm glad to hear the competition is having a good effect on the players. Tyler has to work for his reps.

I thought Philbin was considered a top OL coach for years. Even getting to the point of HC off of his rep.
Coached up Steele in a year...
The year before last there were multiple injuries to the OL and he kept things together to the point of praise.

When the news is good, the "wait to the pads come on" roaches come out of the woodwork. When the news is not so flattering, the "good Lord, the sky is falling" crowd make their way to the ledge. I will wait for training camp where I believe Tyler's strength and nastiness will emerge in this offensive line competition.
