They should have been the Houston Heat.
Then they could have patented the "Heat Wave"
The NBA franchise granted to Miami was just a dozen years before the NFL placed a new team in Houston (1987 and 1999, respectively). Very much doubt the owners-front office and fanbase would have copied the "Heat" team name back then.
I think every NFL franchise ever has existed had a plural team name. There is a CFL team with a singular name- Calgary Stampede.

Thank you Motorola, and I understand that as well, just thought it would have been perfect if not for the Miami conflict.

Then why not the Houston Hell Fire,, that would probably be a little overboard for society to handle, commish would axe it as being to abrasive and having a satanic influence, but what a cool team name that would be.
@PAPPYDOG would want Dak to get traded there... :muttley:

Would it have been good to go with the "space" reference along with the other pro teams?
MLB- Astros, NBA- Rockets, MLS- could 'Dynamo' be considered space-related?

Naw, their problem isn't with the devil, it's faith they detest. Would be a cool name. Jersey has the devils, but you better not put a "in God we trust" sticker on your helmet.

They would be given their walking papers for sure.
Something more soothing like the Houston Lavendar scents.
