This is one of the worst contracts Jerry has ever given a player.

Said before and saying it again, Zeke caught them with their pants down and went for the throat. Stephen was thinking he had another year of cushion to get his contract done and boom, Zeke held out. Rather than calling Zeke's bluff, Stephen panicked and the rest is history.

Not that I'm saying the contract is good/a steal but the Cowboys made it intentionally long, for possible restructuring and the total reflected that.
But yea, SJ was an idiot talking about the Gurley deal as a starting point and then they folded like a cheap suit when he held out.

Speaking about contracts to the media is almost as dumb as speaking about releasing a player if you cant find a trading partner.

The man in control of the cap and players has done both. Let that sink in.

Doubling down on a bad decision.

Resource allocation decisions like this = mediocrity.

In other words, Zeke is the highest-paid RB since 2019. LOL, maybe this is why Jerry is putting Zeke and focal point in the same sentence.

Didn't like the deal when it happened and did not even like the pick at an insanely early 4th overall.
Not that he hasn't given us several very good years....but he is a RB.

What I don't like about Mosher's tweet is that it is, once again, a bit dishonest.

He is throwing out total contract values when Zekes was for 6 years and most others were for 3 or 4 years.
Again, NOT defending the deal, but I hate when Mosher and others do that crap.

I thought mcCaffery is making more, or close to it. I could be wrong though.
Yes. He is. On a per season basis.
Less guaranteed or overall though.

Marcus Mosher was being a bit dishonest
The next two contracts after Zekes paid the same or more per year

To put the issues in context..........let's say Stephen called Zeke's bluff and made him play out his rookie deal.
  • 2016......signed his rookie deal
  • 2017......rookie deal
  • 2018......rookie deal
  • 2019......Zeke gets a new deal
  • 2020......would have been a 5th-year option
  • 2021......he could have tagged him ( $8.6M )
