The Cowboys got the ball to start the game, but didn’t do much with it thanks to some errant passes from Cooper Rush. Locked in a battle to be Dak Prescott’s backup, Rush missed a wide open Jalen Tolbert on the first third down. On the second series Rush was almost pick-6’d and then made an overthrow on third down again.

On their third drive, Rush did connect with Dennis Houston on a 3rd-and-12 for a conversion, which may have settled him down. Or not, as the Cowboys went for it on 4th-and-2 instead of trying a 55-yard field goal (with shaky kickers who need to prove themselves) and Rush threw a pick.

Rush finished his day after one drive in the third quarter. He was 12 fo 20 for 84 yards and the one interception with a 48.8 passer rating.

Ben DiNucci, who is seen as a camp arm trying to hold onto a career at this point, came in and the offense looked much better. He led the only scoring drive, a touchdown pass to Simi Fehoko.

There have been some rumblings, of late, that Will Grier has put forth a battle to win the 2nd QB spot behind Dak.

That might possibly set up a battle between Rush and DiNucci for the #3 backup QB spot or to be put on waivers.

My take on this game is
1. our coaches are not good teachers to the young and bkup players.
2. offense has a lot of issues, but this is PS, starters not playing, so it just means our depth is weak and poorly coached.
3.dinucci was better than rush who was awful for whatever reason.
4. ST including kicking fg,s is not very good
5.too many penaltys, but the refs were flag happy !! lol and many were for things that were not there, or not worth a flag in a fricking PS game.
this includes the ones called on denver.
maybe goodell called the head ref, and said cowboys......light em up !! Plenty of yellow tonight!
6.turpin looked ok but KM using him in predictable ways, so that lessens what effect he has.
I mean do you think the jet sweeps with turpin fooled denver at all?? They knew that was coming .
7. run game nvg, part of the issue there is, I can usually tell by formation and how cowboys line up if it is going to be run or pass.
If I can do that opposing defenses can too.

8.these PS games dont reflect what u will see week 1, Dallas lost all 3 ps games last year and started out 6-1.

9. the # 17 wr for denver played vg, and the qb johnson started funky, but then got hot and was throwing some nice passes.

10.these PS games show more about how good or bad a teams coaches are than anything else. So if you think Dallas sucked bigtime in this game,
that means our coaches suck bigtime, and denver clearly has better quality coaches.

“with shaky kickers who need to prove themselves”

exactly. I didn’t understand this. I was hoping for a couple of kicks each.

Haven't been able to see the game yet, but I can say I'm disappointed most to have seen 17 penalties, when cleaning that up was supposed to be a priority.

Pretty much a washout analysis as you clearly blamed Rush for absolutely everything. Another QB challenged fan I see.

I mean, did anyone else play in the game last night? LOL

Doesn't Denver have new coaches. Maybe the planned a bit more and tried to win the game. Instead of just looking at players. :muttley:

Actually Jimmy did that his 1st year as they went 4-0 or 3-1, can't remember. He said after the 1-15 season, going into the next year. He learned from that. I think they went 0-5 or 1-3 that 2nd season.
He said he wanted to establish a winning attitude, so played the games to win.

What if ….T. Smith replaces T. Smith and you plug in either a McGovern / Farniok at G . This obviously can be the break the glass in case of fire 77 goes down scenario . Wouldn’t be bad idea in the upcoming SD game let’s see 73 go some series as LT . BEFORE the Florida pirates land at the art gallery .

Or move the taller/bigger Alarcón to Left Tackle while keeping the more aggressive but slightly smaller Tyler Smith at Left Guard?

That's the way I would go.

OT Amon Simon needs more playing time... to prove he can be our swing tackle.

WR Turbin needs more time in the slot. Because Tolbert is more of a down the field guy.

QB Rush should be ran off... today.

CB Bland should be put at FS. Can't waste a guy like that.

DE Tafua should be used elsewhere. FB/LS perhaps.

WR Houston should play ahead of Tolbert come regular season.

WR Turbin should take the game day roster spot of our 3rd RB.

HC McCarthy isn't going to solve the penalty problem just by talking about it.

The generally festering lack of discipline was clearly in evidence in last night's game.

It'll be up to the coaches to see to it that such shoddy effort isn't tolerated any longer.

If they remain willing to permit training to be treated so casually, it's simply hopeless.

A while back, Jimmy Johnson really emphasized that situation in no uncertain terms.

As I recall, he described it as the treatment of training as a country club atmosphere.

Remember LT is Daks blind side as I said try Smith in the SD game with Rush or Grier whoever as a target . Try Alarcon . The thought that 77 goes a season without periods of down time not realistic . Josh Ball might be better suited for back up RT .

That would be awesome if he stepped up; however, he played against 4th string defensive players.

Think about what the Broncos 4th string OTs faced as compared to the OTs that started the game...

Dante Fowler. Veteran pass rusher with 11.5 sacks when he was 100% healthy for a season. 3rd overall pick when drafted.

Mike Tafua. Rookie udfa.

I would be OK starting Big Mex in the next game to see what happens.

Note: Supermex is already taken. Golfer Lee Trevino.

Note 2: Trevino was one of the great personalities in sports history.
