What will the Cowboys do at offensive tackle?

For now they will wait until after Friday’s game. Then will look at the waivers to see if any player, and not just at OT that they can get to help the team.

Remember Dallas is 24th in the pecking order to get a claimed player.
Look at waivers first, if that doesn’t pan out I’d imagine they have scouted teams with a need a DE and have an extra tackle they think can be coached up!

I don't know that they will.

I think they see the first backup option to Tyron as Steele to LT.

Option 2 is Tyler to LT and Farinok/McG to LG.

An option for RT could be Martin, with Farinok/McG at RG.

One of Ball or Waletzko will be kept around as well.

Just don't see it as a foregone conclusion that they bring in a veteran tackle barring injury.

Missing the entire summer with the shoulder issue, Waletzko will very likely go on IR, and be a re-do next year.

i cannot imagine the club will be at ease with a struggling Josh Ball at emergency swing tackle that will be needed
Game 1 of reg season. It's too evitable.

I am one of those that believe we will be exploring one of the available vet street FA after the 53 roster cut.
Dunno if it will that very day, .. or 2 games into reg. season to prevent a guaranteed roster dollar.

Four year vets are guaranteed the full year contract if they're still on the team after the first game of the season even if they're cut at some point after that. They're only guaranteed 25% of their contract if signed after the first game of the season.

IMO they are not going to do anything. The time to get a FA OT is already past and Stephen Jones is not trading for one.

If Tyron is out, for any length of time, it doesn't matter who they put there, we're in trouble.

Then plan for trouble, because the guy is a walking injury. The last time he played a whole season was 7 years ago.

for one we need swing tackle not starter not now..im sure vet will be available more than just fisher once cut downs start or trades start being offered on the cheap,.im not worried until its time to worry. lets let the players play game 1 , 2, 3 i mean most of these backups or similar in talent will be out there once need is determined.

the FO has always had a vet swing g/t so im sure they have their eyes out..

That sounds about right.

My 53 right now looks different than I thought it would based on the preseason. Defense is so deep, I'm for keeping 27 on that side of the ball.

QB Prescott, Grier
RB Elliott, Pollard, Davis
TE Schultz, Ferguson, Hendershot
WR Lamb, Brown, Fehoko, Tolbert, Houston. Turpin (Gallup-PUP), (Washington-IR)
OT Smith, Steele, Ball, (Waletzko-IR)
C Biadasz, Farniok
OG Smith, Martin, McGovern

DE Lawrence, Fowler, Williams, Armstrong, Basham
DT Gallimore, Odgihizuwa, Bohanna, Watkins, Golston, Hill
LB Parsons, LVE, Barr, Cox, Gifford
CB Diggs, Brown, Lewis, Joseph, Bland, Goodwin
S Kearse, Hooker, Wilson, Bell, Mukuamu

LS McQuaide
P Anger
K Maher

We would need to cut a player to get Washington to short-term IR, and I'd make it the kicker. Hopefully, we're going to be looking to claim a kicker anyway. Could also sign another tackle if we put Waletzko on short-term IR.

PS would include DiNucci, Ridgeway, Harper, Brandon Smith. Lindstrom ...

Thanks for sharing ... here's an early look at mine.

Note:
- Something is gonna happen at DL with Watkins may/may not be cut, and eventually 6 CBs, ..could be 11 DBs but last CB spot to either Goodwin or Wright
- Ridgeway to Practice Squad ? ,
- i just don't see all these CBs making 53,,, Goodwin or Wright ?
- we'll keep 4 TEs
- Will we keep only 2 RBs, instead of 3 RBs ?
- sign a vet swing OT per FA to replace A. Collins ? .
- James Washington to eventually permanent IR ? Depends how well or how bad we do ar WR depth

One of the inherent problems with our front office is their reluctance to admit mistakes and staying with guys to prove a point. If Josh Ball isn’t the answer, why waste time and risk your big investment of cap space with your QB by not having better depth at Tackle.

Jimmy J once said Jerry hates admitting he made a mistake on a player. And the thing is, ALL GMs make mistakes on draft picks and FAs. The better GMs see their personnel mistakes and move quickly to find a better option. Sticking with a player to prove you were right about them is bad roster building.

I’m of the opinion that the longer this team waits on acquiring a decent swing T, the lesser the number of quality options will be available. They can wait until cuts but they won’t be at the front of the line in being able to claim players. IMO, the time to act is now.
Make your predictions. I think that they will sign Eric Fisher.
I will be surprised if they sign Fisher. He’s not the kind of player they gravitate toward in this situation. They prefer bargain basement types. I think Fisher will command more than we are willing to pay.

I started to suggest Brian Bulaga, although looking up his injury history convinced me otherwise. It's a scary list of various serious problems. The list is certainly one that has its share of questionable physical and aging characteristics for the available OT backups. Let's hope we do our required homework. The available vet free agents all seem a bit shaky. Maybe the final cuts will reveal more of them to seriously consider. o_O Afterthought: Will McClay, help!

I think it's very possible that we deal a DL for an OL, but I don't think Watkins has any trade value. After all, he sat on the FA market for a while before accepting another one-year deal from us.

The CBs are hard for me, but I do believe we'll carry either Wright or Goodwin. I also think the Cowboys love Goodwin as a special-teamer, so it'll be interesting to see if they are willing to move on from him. It could be that we think we can get Wright to the PS, which is certainly a possibility based on how he has played.

Right now, I think Ridgeway would definitely be PS. He hasn't been bad out there, as evidenced by our run defense remaining stout when he's in the game, but he's not making enough noise to make me think someone would want to grab him.

I don't agree on the tight ends, although I understand the reasoning for it since we are going to play two TEs. However, with the practice squad rules that allow you to bring up two players every week, we could put one of them (McKeon) on the PS.

I'll be surprised if we go with two RBs.

I think Waletzko will be the OT on the initial roster, so we can move him to short-term IR and sign a vet OT.

- Looking at the Cowboys history of player for player trade, I don’t expect that at all.
I believe the last time Cowboys did that a I recall was Ryan Switzer for DE Jihad Ward, ..and how did that turn out ?

- If there’s a trade for an OT, or a trade to gain future picks for one of our bubble players, it’s gonna likely be for draft picks.
And they are not gonna trade their valuable higher picks for a swing backup tackle.

- I just don’t see seven CBs on this team roster. Seven CBs and five safeties ?
Wright is a recent invested 3rd round pick (albeit reach ?) and the club (Quinn) covets his size, length and INT skills, but it’s yet to translate on the playing field.
Like Joseph, could it be they will try to find a way to stretch him for one more year ? Some players are late bloomers.

- Goodwin is easily the team’s best special teams coverage guy. And that weighs big on coaches -per Bones Fassel.
Goodwin offers no value in the team’s nickel coverage packages, I have not even seen him this preseason and heard nothing of him in camp reports.
He’s strictly a one track pony, per special teams but he rides and manages that one pony extremely well.

- Is that alone and enuff to secure a 53 roster spot for him ?
