One of the worst decisions of Jerry's career.

A topic that often gets glossed over or misrepresented is that Jerry and Stephen aren't all that good with the cap and moving pieces around like smarter GMs around the league. Look at the Eagles GM. They signed Wentz to a big contract, he stunk, people predicted he'd be a cap anchor and they'd have problems and yet a couple of years later they had enough cap space to sign Reddick and trade for AJ Brown and sign him to a massive deal AND they still ended up with multiple first round picks over a couple years.

We really are at a disadvantage to a few teams in this league.

They also fall in love with "core" players to a fault. The only guy I can think of that Jerry liked but Stephen didn't(JMO) was Dez Bryant. They never touched his contract once in terms of restructuring.
But for certain guys like Romo, Tyron Smith, Sean Lee etc guys who still showed talent even though their bodies were breaking down they still kept the faith and kept restructuring and hoping the next year would be the year they would stay healthy.

Stephen made the moronic radio comments about Gurley's contract and that being the floor.
They restructured Zekes deal twice already.

The Eagles traded up for Wentz but then realized years later he sucked so they sold at a decent return. Not quite a top 2 pick back but at least a 1st+.
They sort of planned ahead by drafting Hurts prior so at least they had an in house option in case Wentz couldn't redeem himself.

Jaylon Smith
Tank - reworked but still...
Zeke
Dak

Massive mistakes contract wise. Jaylon was cringe worthy at the time
They are paying Jaylon Smith to sit at home. You know how much?

The same the Rams are paying Bobby Wagner to actually play for their team.

Team building 101 by Jerry Jones.

I wouldn't be as miffed by the investment if we actually used him. Instead, we remove him from the game plan when he's averaging 5 yards per carry and watch him routinely take a few series off.

My belief is that one of the main reasons we have become so bad at managing the cap is because the Jones boys over-value their own opinions and ideas. They don’t seem to have or value a voice in the room that can say, “This is a really bad idea”, or “I would advise against that”.

JJ himself has said he doesn’t reflect on his mistakes but chooses only to think positively. Which may be a good quality in business but is a horrible way to manage an NFL roster. He simply does not admit or learn from his mistakes and what the absolute worst is this: he always believes in a “best case scenario” for his teams. That is a terrible practice for an NFL GM. If you aren’t prepared for worst case scenarios, you simply aren’t prepared.

We are watching that flaw already unfold one week into the 2022 season. Hope and positivity don’t win.

And to add ridiculousness to stupidity, while overpaying these guys they don't sign top tier free agents because they don't want to overpay them!

Yet we still have the 3rd most cap space in the league and did the absolute least with it. That's the real tragedy here. I'm hopeful that this injury to Dak will reset the offensive mindset on this club that has them running 16 times a game and throwing 40-50 and back to throwing 25-30 times and running it 30+ like we did in Zeke's first 2 seasons. He looked great the other night. Ground and pound. Play defense. Pick your spots in the passing game. It's a formula we can win with.

That said, probably no chance of it happening.

We had a nice backup in Mike White, but were too stupid to wait for him to develop. Once again, one of our biggest weaknesses due to having an awful GM, personnel assessment. We cannot see what a player will become.

I’m convinced Jerry has always been bent on recreating the original Big 3 (Aikman, Emmitt, and Irvin) and, of course, who wouldn’t. Problem is when you’re forcing it you start making bad decisions (see Zeke’s extension).

Complaining about the owner's mistakes, won't change a thing. Why keep bringing up these same threads?

Excellent point. Plus a lot of these mistakes are in hindsight.

Another thing that people keep bringing up that drives me nuts, Zeke held out 2 years early. As if this was uncommon.
