Running Back next draft

He's good.........what round?

With the way our season is going so far, i would like think Cowboys will be drafting in the mid to late 20s. I seriously doubt Gibbs or Robinson will be available late inthe 2nd round, so I would probably go late 1st round pick, (Which to me is a early second pick honestly) or trade back to see if we can accumulate draft capital especially with Zeke potentially being release this off-season and the uncertainty of how much Pollard would command inthe offseason as well, Cowboys might need to pull the trigger before every one else.

I know how people on CZ feel about taking a running back inthe first round but I dont see an issue with it only because you have to account these playoff caliber teams with QBs that's already in place that'll take a flyer on BPA elite skill players inthe late first round to compliment their team- Bills, Chiefs, Dolphins, who i think will be inthe market for a ready made running back to take..Even if Robinson/Gibbs don't make it out of the 1st round unselected. They'll be picked within the first 10 picks inthe 2nd round easily.

You are probably right but keep in mind the free-agent RB position for 2023 is very deep

Understand that as well, but top free agent running backs are going to want money unless we're going to bargain bin shop with a potential JAG. I would rather gamble on elite talent on a rookie contract rather than take my chances on a runningback who you don't know coming in motivated or not once he's gotten paid his money.

I see exactly what you are saying but don't disagree but there is almost NO chance of them using the 1st rounder on RB. Just don't see it........,

You take the talent on a rookie deal on positions that are actually valuable…not RB. We’d be able to get a quality RB for $5 mil or less and a quality RB in rounds 3/4.

Guys like mostert drake and Jeff Wilson are solid backs that teamed with a rookie mid rounder could produce. Those guys made under 3m each this year.

I think Pollard is a quality back, do you think the Cowboys can sign him for 5 million this off season or could get more elsewhere??

And I agree we could potentially get a solid running back in rounds 3/4 no debate on my end. Me personally just feel like we need to hit our mark with an elite player at the position early especially if we decide to go another direction and not keep Zeke next year and potentially losing Pollard to another team as well.

But how much? I love Pollard and think he’s one of our best playmakers…but can you pay him 5/6 mil a year?

Maybe but that’d be my ceiling.
I’d rather pay Pollard 5/6 m per year than Shultz on the tag. That was a poor allocation of cap dollars.

We will be drafting 32nd. FIFY.

Yep. Draft a lineman to block for the RB instead.

Since we didn't have anyone else at TE, it was actually an excellent allocation of cap dollars. 2 unproven rooks.

Nope…think he’s gonna demand 7/8+ which is too rich for me.

I’m torn on Schultz…he’s clearly always on the same page as Dak and has a great connection with him. That being said Fergy look like a solid replacement.

If he gets too expensive bye.

i think in hindsight definitely. but they gave him the tag before the draft. Even adding 2 TEs, you had to keep him because you don't want to go into the season with a mid round and an undrafted rookie TE as your main guys.

Remember you want your 1st round pick starting day one. As of today, it looks like may need starting RB, G, and maybe CB. If we are drafting near the bottom of the round ( 27-32 ) and the best RB in the draft was still there, I'd have no problem pulling the trigger.

Still be a firm no for me.

OT, LG, DT, CB, WR and Safety would all see significant snaps year 1.

Yeah, more like the 4th round, 3rd at the earliest. Maybe someone like Bijan Robinson will slip to 3rd/4th.

Anyone see Pearce the rookie out of Florida a mid round pick slice and dice the Eagles last night for the Texans . The Cowboys rounds 3-4 can find this type back next draft for either or both 20 & 21 is gone next season .
