What is the real reason for trading Amari Cooper?

Amari Cooper is clearly a talented NFL wide receiver. He has size, speed, and superior route running ability. So why have both the Raiders and the Cowboys cut ties with him after 3-1/2 seasons in each location?

The missed trade for Brandon Cooks, and the potential signing of Odell Beckham, Jr. means that it wasn’t money that drove the decision to part with Cooper. Both players will command salaries similar to Cooper.

From the outside looking in, it appears that Amari has always been the consummate professional in how he handles himself with fans and the media. So it is a bit baffling that he has only had a shelf life of about 42 months in each location prior to being traded a second time to the Browns for only a 5th round pick.

The reality is that although offensive production is down in Dallas this year, we don’t know how much of that to attribute to the loss of Cooper. The injury to Dak, and the renewed commitment to running the football have also contributed to the lower overall production through the first 8 games.

Frankly, I’m left wondering what it is about Cooper that we don’t know.

What we could see was:
- not consistent on road vs home
- could disapeer at times when needed most
- big contract that wasn't worth the production
- future 1wr in ceedee in the waiting (in shadow)

What we heard but wasn't substantiated
- could have had some friction with Dak - name calling was referenced as a rumor
- not a vocal team leader that was expected

What we all hypothesised
- rubbed Jerry the wrong way with views on vacination
- put the team in a position where he was a potential locker room divider

There are probably a few other things that people could add but i would be willing to bet it was a combination of things from all three groups that got him let go

I think it was clear that his anti-vaxx status and subsequent positive test that forced him to miss 2 games gave Jerry the scapegoat he was looking for for the late season flameout. Add in the chance to save some $$ and off he went for absolutely nothing. The worst move I can ever recall.

Cooper Rush was the QB for 5 of the 8 games.

Look at Cooper's stats this year then look at Ceedee's...

The similar statistics don’t take into account the Cowboys’ desire to acquire another top wide receiver. If the Cowboys were happy to stand pat with CeeDee as the Cooper replacement, I would understand it. But why pursue another big name WR, if money for production was the answer to the question?

Be nice to have a WR show some fire. I don’t expect Michael Irvin out there, but with Cooper it always seemed like he’d rather be somewhere else! I don’t think it’s any one thing, it’s a combination of things that drove the team to move on.

------Frankly, I’m left wondering what it is about Cooper that we don’t know.

You and others may not know....I've known since 12/22/19....the day in Philadelphia that he once and for all showed Booger, The Clapping Carrot, and Chuckles just how much football means to him...I honestly believe that the dye was cast that day far as his long term future in Dallas.

The whole Vax thing looks worse and worse for the so called NFL rules now, does it not? Since they have pretty much abandoned all of them?

No, I think its two reasons:
Dak and Cooper did not really jell as a combo; sometimes things just happen that way
The Cap hit was the other main one; BUT I also think Cooper being a very straightforward type let it be known he did not have much time for the clown show

I like the way you put that.

He just wore out his welcome last season between time missed with covid, up and down reliability, etc. There was probably more said behind closed doors and though he wasn't a loud mouth like TO the Cowboys were just fed up with him.
