Haven’t seen much talk about him at all, and curious to get opinions

4 Star recruit who had offers from both LSU and Bama. Was also a high school track star who reportedly has high 4.3/low 4.4 speed.

Boutte was dynamic as a true freshman bursting into the SEC with 735 yards and 5 TD’s. He started garnering attention as a future top pick. He was on his was to having a very good year as a Sophomore, but his season was cut short due an ankle injury that required surgery. He had 503 yards and 9 TD’s in 6 games and his QB had a 145 rating when targeting Boutte.

But then came 2022…Boutte played in 11 games and had 538 and 2 tds. He didn’t look like the same player at all. Possibly due to the ankle not being fully healed, but there was also reported friction between him and Brian Kelly and the new coaching staff.

There’s no denying that if he’s right he may very well be the best playmaking WR in this class. He’s dynamic with the ball in his hands and has speed to keep any defense honest. Although he did suffer from the occasional focus drop, you can tell he has good natural hands with the ability to make tough catches away from his body. Can play inside or out and always a threat on screens and jet sweeps. A versatile weapon

Thoughts on Boutte and if he’s worth the risk?

IMO, Boutte needs to blow up the Combine to get people remembering why he was so highly touted. As it stands, his sophomore tape is getting overshadowed by his junior tape, and the injury + malcontent status are going to scare a lot of teams off.

If he has huge jumps and runs like a flat 4.4, he probably isn't going any lower than Pickens did last year at #52. If he bombs it, I think he's falling into Day 3. Six good games almost two years ago won't override all of those minuses.

And Brian Kelly is a total dick, so I could see him being the problem instead of Boutte. But thinking about it, I don't remember him feuding with any star players at ND. Maybe an Irish fan on here can remind me.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s the best WR in this draft or fizzles out after 3 seasons.

The good tape is really good…explosive, quick, breakaway speed and YAC ability.

Screams Cowboys 2nd rounder:

Major gamble. Talent wise he is the best WR in this draft, but he has major bust potential. Not comparable as players, but he gives me a Jonathan Baldwin vibe as a guy that could wash out or become a legit #1

That sounds like Kelvin Joseph all over again. Hard pass for me.

I seem to remember him and Brian Kelly getting into it after the FSU opening loss. Then I don't remember hearing much or him doing much after. I believe he also had a bad drop in that game. Have not seen him in the first round of even one mock draft whereas pre season saw him ranked as a top 10 player. Kind of player Jerry loves to roll the dice on in round 2.

Sounds like Bossman Joseph to me. Hard pass.

Difference is Joseph was never a 1st round talent or considered the top player at his position.

I think Boutte has a much higher ceiling than Joseph ever had.
I disagree, Kiper and a few others had Joseph as a fringe, 1st rd talent. He possesses elite corner traits, but is mentally weak.

Even if that’s accurate he was never considered the top CB prospect.

Before the dip in production Boutte was widely consider WR1 and was being mocked to 10/15.

I agree. Sick of hearing how talented that bum is. I never bought into it or saw it. Boutte is legit talented though. If you're a headache atleast be talented

Joseph had good traits but only played a limited number of games in college.

Probably took him a round too early.

It’s not about the traits for me. It’s his personality. Boutte is booty. We don’t need anymore personalities like him on the team.

IMO worth a gamble if he falls into day 3. But not day 2.

This receiver group lacks any elite options, the corner class which Joseph was draft in was loaded with talent.

I think Boutte would warrant a 1st round selection if there were no off the field concerns.

But yea, outside of him not crazy about anyone.

Fringe 1st round talent doesn’t compare to the type of prospect Boutte was touted as before he hurt his ankle in 2021. He wasnt being discussed as 1st round, or even top 20, it was a matter of how high in the top 15 he was going. A bad 2022 has hurt that stock…but I wouldn’t put it out of the realm of possibility that his ankle just wasn’t healed 100% yet. Obviously that would require medical testing to clear.

As far as his attitude/personality…I just don’t know. As far as I can tell there were never any run ins with the law nor was he suspended in any kind of way.
