I truly despise content providers who bury the lead of the story three paragrapghs down the page. I understand it is to get you to read the entire thing, but the tease of a headline should require the who, what, why, when, and where up front

I put it here for you.

"According to Over The Cap, the Cowboys now have $16.2 million in cap space."

The way they laid it out leaves me thinking they are not as current as they act. But this story is about 45 minutes old. You decide.
There are otther stories attached below the cap story about possible first round pick and such.

This still have room to receive even more cap space and will be getting close to 11 million after June 1st for Zeke's release.

What we know is that they still need a Place Kicker and a NT. Will they use the rest of the space on a Bobby Wagner? Will they use the funds to start handing out future extensions for Steele, Diggs, Lamb?

I wonder what the price point is for Wagner?

After we signed LVE, I thought Wagner was out, but the longer it takes for him to sign, and we know we need at least one more linebacker.
I wonder if Quinn told him we can give you a 1 - year say.....five million dollar contract and you get to be part of a defense that can be really special. Wagner in the middle, LVE at WLB - would be nice! Who knows? It's nice to dream.

True Journalism is dead, and has been for a long time. I noticed this as well, and not just in sports.
It the 1st paragraph, journalism school taught, or used to teach the 5 W's. And a good reporter would then catch your attention to keep you reading.

Who, What, When, Where, Why.

Heck we get a lot of that on there. A one liner then the link or only the link to an article or most video's. That is just lazy posting.
I think if you create a thread, at least give the basic info of what is in the article or video. As many can't or don't have time to click the link at that time.

Anyway thanks for the update on the cap hit. Hopefully they will use it wisely as they have been so far this off-season.

the salary cap is a suggestion, not real. Not a hard cap. Teams have learned ways to circumvent it in very creative ways. We finally seem to be catching up.
I think we have a better handle on the cap than many teams do. We have been giving out contracts that are built to be restructured for quite a while. Every year we have easy avenues to clear 50 million + in cap space. The issue has been what do we do with it. We have typically tried to bring in 10 cheap fixes rather than 1 or 2 difference makers. We still haven't swung for the fences, but it definitely has been a different kind of year. However, even the trades for Gilmore and Cooks can be short term deals without much cap pain depending on how they play in 2023.

The longer he is out there, are chances improve, especially when we are getting Zeke's money post June 1st.

Agree with all you said, our problem has been over valuing our own guys and giving them crazy contracts.
In hindsight, so glad Randy walked away from us.

16 was from a couple days ago… doesn’t include having Fowler, Edoga, Dowdle, McKinley and long snapper subtracted! Thinking closer to 9, depending on how much of a raise Fowler got from last year!

I think the lb comes from the draft. Wagner wants paid top dollar.

This site is usually the most up to date for salary cap questions and contract details: https://overthecap.com/salary-cap/dallas-cowboys
Yes, according to that site (which is the one I use) we are at $15.7 million. The only contract not accounted for in those calculations is the one for Dante Fowler. I can't imagine his cap hit is that much. We are in great shape when you consider we get another $10.9 million on June 1st for Zeke.

Fowler, Mckinly, Dowdle and Sieg are at the very bottom and listed as 0 each. The 10m from Zeke will be what they pay the rookie class and reserve in season injury replacement signings!

It is 15.7 at current.

Any deal accepted by the league gets added at spotrac.

The landscape is changing in a big way. Legacy sports media is dying due to agenda driven faux narratives instead of actual reporting of the real facts. I think many on here and YT do a fairly decent job at presenting such facts and having a healthy debate afterwards. The Mike Fishers, Espns' of the world are dying off.

The one bad thing about June 1 releases is that you cannot use that money until then for anything.

So any deals we make have to fit under the cap we have now.
