24. Dallas Cowboys
1(26) Mazi Smith DT Michigan
2(58) Luke Schoonmaker TE Michigan
3(90) DeMarvion Overshown LB Texas
4(129) Viliami Fehoko Edge San Jose State
5(169) Asim Richards OT North Carolina
6(178) Eric Scott Jr. CB Southern Miss
6(212) Deuce Vaughn RB Kansas State
7(244) Jalen Brooks WR South Carolina

Favorite pick: Mazi Smith, DT, Michigan

In the past, the Cowboys’ organizational philosophy has been to wait on drafting nose/one-technique defensive tackles because the value wasn’t there in the first round. But the combination of a glaring need and Smith’s talent forced the front office to rethink things — and I applaud them for that. A remarkable athlete for 330 pounds, Smith has the power to reset the line of scrimmage and shut down the run. His presence will free up Micah Parsons and other defenders to make more plays.

Day 3 pick who could surprise: Asim Richards, OT, North Carolina

If the category was “most heartwarming story,” then Deuce Vaughn would have been the easy pick. But I think Richards will prove himself to be a valuable part of the offensive line as early as his rookie year. A former high school basketball player, Richards moves well and plays with outstanding play strength to lock down defenders once engaged. He has the talent to establish himself as a swing tackle/guard this season.

Eagles 1, Giants 13 and Skins 25.

Give it a few years. If we get 2 solid starters and a rotational player or 2 I consider it a win.

I guess ranking 24th when picking 26th and sticking and picking ain't too shabby.

Does he come back well into the season for a regrade based on how the players are actually contributing? If he does, he would have dropped the Eagles last season because they got all of the applause for their UGA picks when it was really their trades and FA work that elevated the team.

I actually think the Cowboys 3rd and 4th rounders might just elevate their ranking by December.

Based on his rankings, we had a poor class. As fans, let's hope some of these players surprise and make a positive impact.

Dane is as good as it gets IMO. He also has ties / connections to the Cowboys so provides a little additional context whenever he's on some of the shows.

No doubt, one of the best talent evaluators we have in the media. He does miss on some players, but he usually gets most of them right.

He specifically said in his article that the rankings are skewed based on teams who had earlier picks or multiple picks early.

Which, when you pick 26 and don't have anyone fall to you, ranking 24th is about all you can expect.

Certainly more challenging picking players at the end of each rd.

We did have some fall. Nolan Smith in the first and Darnell Washington in the third would have moved the grade up. Not that I want those players over who we selected, just saying there were players there who had fallen and would have given a better grade, for whatever that's worth.

Nolan Smith and Myles Murphy were huge sliders.

It’s probably worth noting that the Eagles were taking a long term approach to the draft since they had such a strong roster.

Ex. Eagles lost 2 LBs to high dollar FA contracts. Eagles insert draft slider Nakobe Dean into the starting lineup.

Anyone fall who they wanted or filled a need.

I would have taken Smith, personally, but he's totally redundant with Micah, so I can see why they didn't.

Oh, I totally understand why they didn't take Smith. We essentially took players like him in the first round two years ago and in the second round last year.
