Double Your Use of TEs in the Passing Game, Involve Your Possession WR, Everything Else Falls in Place

Should see the RBs much more active in the passing game also.
I just think Schoonmaker really knows how to run routes. He's got an insane 3-cone time, and if you pay close attention, no other TE in college cuts like him, maybe not even the beloved Kincaid. Having him, will make Hendershot and Ferguson that much better. They will all make each other better when the other is on the field; that's what I like about the trio of Hendershot, Ferguson, and Schoonmaker.

Personally, I think people will look back at the Schoonmaker pick, much like we did with Witten, Tyler Smith last year, and so on. He's got all the right tools to prove all of his doubters wrong. At that level, once you're so big and athletic, it comes down to what's between the ears. He's not an uber exciting person, but neither was Witten, or Novacek for that matter.

We were already in the top 6 teams running that ball. It wasn't our pass plays that sucked, per se, or players who sucked. It was that the offense had become predictable.

Top 6 running the ball, you still want to get those speed guys out in the open like Deuce and Pollard. The TEs will be plenty involved and I definitely feel like Schoonmaker can prove the doubters wrong. But having a good screen game (which is a long time coming) and some routes by the RBs specially having quality outside WRs and a good group of TEs .. lot of 1 on 1s and some mismatches!

Depends on how you use the TE and other weapons really. It's all about who can run good routes and get open with their feet. Kelce isn't the fastest guy on the field but how does he seem to always get open? It's those feet and how he runs a route vs how he's being defended along with decent speed. How these coaches teach route running along with the plays they call should help this offense. Otherwise it's back to small ball, slow moving, lots of room for error ball and stalled offense.

i.e. "DD4D* (Dumb it Down For Dak)...with some good ole 1990 version of classic MartyBall.

Quick...we need to sign four fullbacks and an HBack.

I think the RBs will be good this year, particularly in the passing game. I could be wrong. But I see the Cowboys going in a totally different direction at RB. Like Pollard, Rojo, Vaughn, Luepke.

Right. I mean getting some passes downfield early. Of course you have to hit the short passes, but we actually have TEs who can stretch the field a little bit. Making teams account for them will open up our WRs that much more, as will passing out of the backfield, motions, etc.

Like Kelce?

But that's (downfield ball) not the plan . . . the small ball is. Keep the O on the field longer while the D rests. Ball control O.
Small ball and ball control offense are a death sentence. You cannot win consistently without explosives.

That's what I'd like to see from a McCarthy team. More plays involvong the TE, and more high percentage pass plays to keep the defense honest. Hopefully, Gallup gets his step back this season.
I think what everybody is referring to in these different posts is better route combinations, attacking the different defensive zones. lets not run two recievers in the same area, lets not have a WR run into the TE in the same zone. lets not run everybody deep or have 4 WR 10 yard curls. force the defense to defend the whole field. be less predictable.

be less predictable.
That alone should give us some advantage.

I shy away from we need to do "this" because I think we need to be able to do a number of things well to reach our goals. Do I think being able to run effectively, combined with short to intermediate passes is probably our best core identity? Yes.

But that doesn't mean you won't take shots based off being successful with that. It doesn't mean you shouldn't have games where you are more aggressive overall. We need to adapt to the team we are playing. If our TE's give us an advantage, then set records for TE utilization that day. If our receiving corp overmatches their secondary we need to play that tune. But be balanced in knowing your D can help you win the game.

Ferg and Shoon should have some great opportunities with pollard and the wrs we have

We lost last year because we couldn’t run the ball. The other team knew that and dropped into coverage. The TEs should help the run along with Pollard and Deuce. The WRs have always been there. Dak just can’t get the ball to them if the opponent is playing the pass or rushing the passer every play.

Opposite. TEs means small ball and smaller margins to win.

Get the ball downfield.
Balance, diversity of targets and varying depth throws all while operating at a high rate of efficiency are key.

Or scheming the heck out of your opposition and hammering a weakness until they prove they can stop it.

WR targets are a lot more productive than TE targets, all things being equal.

That doesn't mean you just go out and target your WRs 50 times, there is more nuance to it than that. But I would be very skeptical about systematically increasing TE targets at WRs' expense.
