What you wish for and what you think will happen are not the same things. You are trying to wish it into reality that they don't extend Dak. I think you're going to be disappointed.

There is absolutely no point in extending Dak as we have too many holes to be contenders on top of Dak not being the type of QB to carry a team in the playoffs. But I have so little faith in the Jones' I still think they'll do it. You trust them for some reason.
What you or I wish for means nothing at all.

You have little faith in the Jones', but still apparently believe what they say regarding this contract. Even though the time table just keeps getting moved further and further back, but oh well.

Stop listening to what Jerry or Stephen say and start paying attention to what they do.

Does this off-season really seem like a team that's getting ready to offer a record breaking contract to a QB? Do you really believe they are operating like that?

This offseason is absolutely no different than any other offseason. They don't sign big free agents. The last big one they signed was Deion Sanders in 1994. They've already clarified that all in means keeping the core together which it's kind of hard to have a core without the QB.

Everyone that left in free agency were pretty much expected to leave. This is business as usual.

Not sure which other teams would be potential suitors next offseason. New York Giants, Seattle, Minnesota, Tennessee, Denver, and Las Vegas. I suppose Pittsburgh, but I doubt they sign anyone for big money (not how they operate).
My guess would be Seattle, Steelers, Jets, and Saints but all it takes is one. I'm willing to bet a red penny his agent can peel off at least 3 teams he's 100% sure would sign him.

I would be curious to see when we've let so many starters walk and so far not replaced them.

#1 RB without even a #2 RB on roster.
All-Pro Tackle
Top 10 Starting Center
#3 WR
Higher end depth guys
Pretty soon our best DT when the Seahawks sign him.

Everyone on 1 year deals now, including the coaches.

Yup. Just a normal year.

I think this is because they finally understand that you cannot build a true SB contender of you pay an above average QB 60 million/y and it will also give them time to see what Lance has
So why wait until next season to move on?

It makes zero sense to pay him all that money this year when you can try to get a trade or cut him on June 1st and recover some of the CAP hit.

He has a no-trade clause, but you can permit him to seek out a trade. Let's face it Jerry and Stephen have no balls and quite frankly no serious plan. It seems pretty obvious they just react to what is going on instead of having a focus and vision.

A whole lot of copeium going on here.

Enjoy your last year of Dak, Dak fans!
Then enjoy next few seasons of sub par games and records under .500 because they aren't great at drafting QBs unless Jimmy helps them or it's an after thought in the draft. In 64 years Aikman was the only 1st round to do anything and even the fans wanted him gone after his 1st year.

How do you know they can't draft a great QB?

They've not drafted a QB in the first round since Aikman. Let em try before you crown them not able to.

Also, miss me with the "We'll suck without Dak' attitude like you didn't watch Cooper Rush go 5-1 with Dak in street clothes and Cooper Rush is a bum.

If you are Dak, what is the modern way of going about this if Dak is left to play on an expiring?

Seems like he would be smart to pull a couple of fake injuries to get through the season without a serious injury.

Or do you just hold out? You get docked pay for that, right?

Or...does Dak just fall to the ground the second he senses pressure?

I just dont see a QB playing on an expiring who could lose a lot of money from a serious injury.

If they're definitely getting rid of Dak why not try to get him to agree to wave his no trade clause and trade him now and try to get something back for him instead of playing another season on a team that isn't good enough to contend and then he walks for nothing?

Trust me I want Dak gone as much as you do, we just think differently about how the Jones' think which is kind of hard to figure out because they don't know what they're doing.

Exactly........especially waiting until AFTER the draft. Hell, if they focused on a hard deadline before the draft at least a trade is possible.
Which team (presumably, one that's competing in 2024) would trade away anything for Dak as he's in his contract year?

The problem is to what money though? I would guess he gets signed for sure. The guaranteed money would be pretty low though in my opinion. Lots of dead cap for the Jets and Saints. The Steelers are one of if not the stingiest teams in all of football. Seattle is pretty stingy too.

See the problem is that you assume what they are doing is just letting him play out his deal.

They very well could be just trying to hold onto whatever leverage they think they have left here hoping Dak comes down on his demands.

Until training camp??????? Is this true?? Why wait? I mean, what's the point ........this far past free agency and the draft? If this is true, they may as well give France a blank check coz the only leverage left will be if injury costs Dak to miss most of the season.

It appears from their perspective, that the extra cap from his extension has little or nothing to do with free agency per se but more about Lamb and Parsons deals.

Cowboys roster: How the starters would line up for a game right now

This is what the Dallas Cowboys roster would look like if they had to play a game today

Quarterback - Dak Prescott. It’s a given. The management (read: Stephen Jones) is indicating they will probably not work on an extension with him until training camp, but he is the starter no matter how that goes. He is a very good if not elite quarterback. His success and the success of the team is going to depend a lot on how well Mike McCarthy runs his offense this year.
It never was. It doesn't matter if they extend Dak or not, this FO is incompetent and always has been at least since Jimmy left. Never going to win anything with Dumb and Dumber running the show.

I think if they have really resigned themselves to him not being the future beyond this year, letting him play out the year is downright dumb.

But then again, when does this franchise ever do the right thing?

That's fine too.

Greddy Dak ain't gonna come down on his demands.

Maybe Dak, like Randy Gregory, will save Jerry from himself.
