Watching the Cowboys off season is like watching corn grow with no water and no fertilizer

Pretty much sums it up. Maybe its worse. Maybe they forgot to put the corn seed in the ground and cover it up. I mean really, could it be much worse or any worse for that matter?
Its been worse

FWIW, I give my cattle feed corn, and every summer there's dozens of corn stalks that pop up around their trough. They haven't ever produced even a single ear, but someday they might. Perhaps the same will inadvertently happen with the Boys?

Or intensely staring at a midget thinking he will suddenly sprout to 6 feet tall.

The sad part watching fans approaching year 30 and think they actually have a plan in the place with a rebuild….just sad man.
There aren't any signs they're 'rebuilding' either. Looks like status quo to me, just like every other year.

As I have been saying, I don't think this is about rebuilding or about spending money today, but rather the team treating 2024 as a "reset" year.

They know they have a problem with Dak's contract and they also know they have two huge contracts coming up with Lamb and Parsons in 2025, so they are using 2024 to reset everything.

Sure, they hope they can win a Super Bowl in 2024, but from a business standpoint as long as the team can be competitive enough to remain in the playoff hunt (even if relying on other teams to lose), Jerry knows the 2024 team's revenue will be fine.

Of course Cowboys fans view things differently because our primary goals are Super Bowl wins.

However, as I also keep saying, the Cowboys priorities are revenue generation and valuation growth. They want to win Super Bowls but that is their secondary goal, not primary.

I mostly agree with that. We keep hearing about rebuilding or all in, but those are the wrong words. Jerry is just letting 2024 play out in a way that keeps all of his options open for 2025. Many don't feel that a true plan is in place, and that's probably true because they will be spending 2024 in evaluation mode.

For the record I think this is the worst possible thing the Cowboys can do from a football perspective.

I think the main catylist for this decision is Dak's huge cap hit rather than the other things like most of the coaches being on the last year of their contracts, Lamb and Parsons contracts coming up, etc.

While those other things are important, I doubt those alone would have led the Cowboys to do things differently.

I think (in their minds) a golden opportunity presented itself when the salary cap increased by a lot more than expected because that presented the Cowboys with a way to get on top of the Dak contract situation, either with a fresh new contract or by moving on from him in 2025.

It provides them with a way to rip the bandaid off in one year rather than trying to solve the problem over multiple seasons.

I don't like the possibility of having a wasted year any more than most Cowboys fans, but the Cowboys have a Dak contract problem along with a defense that needs to be fixed at the core level (not just talent wise).

As long as they fully commit to fixing those issues, I am fine with them using 2024 as a reset year.

I have no issues with a reset type of year either, it's honestly probably for the best. My issue is that I wish Jerry would pick a direction to move in though. Either keep Dak and resign him now before the price goes up yet again in 2025 or move on and try to collect compensation for the guy before he walks for nothing, while also getting a real feel for what you could have in Lance. Other guys who are likely not to be Cowboys after 2024 lets try explore trade opportunities for. I'd rather get a 2nd rounder for OSA this year than let him walk for a 4th/5th comp pick next. The coaching staff thing just bugs me because if this isn't the group you want in place for 2025 how do you actually draft this year? You're targeting developmental guys who might not even fit the system in 2025.

I'm not against the idea of a reset year, I just hate the execution by the Cowboys as it seems to be done half hearted in order to keep the team somewhat competitive to maximize profits. It shows where the priority is for Jerry/Stephen.

Not just CeeDee and Micah, but also Tyler Smith, Odighizuwa, and maybe Bland if he continues to make plays. These won't be as big as CeeDee and Micah (an obviously Dak) but they will still be big enough that they have to be accounted for.
