Another game another bad loss at home. Totally expected or it should have been. I hate losing even when I know they are going to lose. I console myself with the thought of a top 10 draft pick next April but 50% of my subconscious brain tells me Jerry will do something stupid with that pick, like take Shedeur Sanders. Yet, I hope for something better.

The 2024 Cowboys are a really bad football team and getting worse. For 3 quarters last night, the banged up defense gave a good effort. The truth is, they are not very good as a unit, and missing DLaw, Sam Williams, Bland, and Lewis is too much to make up for.

Sun Tzu said, "The battle is won before it is fought." He was referring to preparation, training, planning. In football, that begins in the offseason. The Cowboys lost this game last March and April. They lost all 7 games last March and April. Sun Tzu also said, "when the soldiers fail to follow orders it is the fault of the generals." In this case, Jerry is the only general.

I think McCarthy has given up. Maybe not consciously, but his game decisions indicate he is desperate and feeling like if he doesn't do some crazy things like fake a punt inside his own 40 yard line in the 1st quarter down 7-0 the Cowboys will have no chance to win. Maybe he is right. But moves like that are for losers. He is not acting like a winning coach. It is not McCarthy's fault. He is a capable coach with an incapable team. But we all know that play calling like that is what losing teams do. Teams that know there are still 3 quarters to play and they will score points at some point, do not take huge risks in situations like that. It was 4th and 9 from their own 33! Maybe on a 4th and 3 that's a better risk. But 4th and 9? Thomas caught the ball and was still a few yards short of the first down.

The injuries hurt. They have to. They say don't use injuries as an excuse. When you lose your best players to injury it has to hurt. losing Dak hurt. Losing Cooks hurt. Losing Ferguson hurt. By the time the game ended 3 of the Cowboys starting 5 left the game injured. But not as much as losing all those players to free agency in the off-season and not replacing them.

Another truth. Rush is not as good as Dak and those who said otherwise could not be more wrong. I could say something stronger there but I won't. Dak is a very good QB. Not the best. Not top 5. Not worth $60 million per year. But he is much better than Rush or Lance and you have to be a strong Dak hater to suggest otherwise. At the same time, it is also true Dak was playing poorly when he got hurt.

The Cowboys RBs are not very good, but it is clearly the offensive line that is the problem in the running game. There is no blocking. There are no lanes to run through. Since 2016 the offensive line has totally collapsed.

I said before the season this team would win 6 games, maybe 7. I also said they would get blown out as much as they would win. 3 wins. Five blow-outs so far. At this point it is hard to imagine where 3 more wins come from, especially if Martin and Tyler Smith miss any significant time. If they finish 3-14 they will certainly have a top 5 draft pick.

I think Diggs is playing well too there’s a few players out here that haven’t given up. There are a few players trying to find their place. I don’t think anybody’s quitting. I think they’re getting frustrated. Quitting no
I still don’t get the fake punts .
CD lamb
Michael Parsons
They’re looking for a ring. They may ask to be traded . But quitting that’s not gonna show a new team a good attitude about them.

Add in the fact that Dak’s injury will take roughly 6-8 months to come back from. The new coaching staff will barely get any time with him until TC.

I can already see what is surely going to happen in the draft. Our running game stinks, but instead of JJ seeing that the real problem is the OL, he's going to over-correct and spend the likely high first round pick on RB Jeanty. Jerry will always default to the 90's way of running a team.

I’m not quite sure why Sanders would be stupid. He’s accurate, mobile, has a good arm, he’s clutch at the end of games and could sit for a year or two and will only get better with experience. Plus we get him on a rookie deal much like Atlanta is doing with Michael Penix. He’s much more Jayden Daniels than he is Trey Lance.

Doing nothing at the QB position is stupid at this point unless we’re just going to tank out of his contract with 4-12 seasons.

The fake punt is @Bobhaze fault..he dared MM to try some silliness!

If Dowdle had any semblance of blocking around him he’d be a fine NFL running back.

The problem on offense is that the line is toast, we have one WR, and the QB has not been good no matter who is under center.
Agree. Dowdle runs hard and does well given his limited opportunities. The problem is we get behind and get away from the run. The "Air Rush" offense sucks.

Is your closet filled with Dak jerseys?

Yeah...can we stop with the fake punt deep into our own territory crap??? I mean, I know we've got nothing to lose, but man...it doesn't fool anyone, and makes us look like idiots!! Why doesn't McCarthy overrule these decisions by Bones??

Good point.

Makes it even more likely that Moore is the choice IMO.

After we lost Ronald Leary on the offensive line we have never been the same. Replacing him with Connor Williams was a mistake and cost us a lot in the run game with poor blocking and penalties.

We need to sign a starter at guard and we need to add at least one starter on the interior defensive line. I've been saying we should trade parsons. He does dramatically improve our past rush but we can't pay him. That would be 50% of the cap going to Parsons, CD and Dak.

We'll get a top 10 and maybe top 5 pick and I would use that on a quarterback. By the time Dak is gone maybe we'll have someone who can win a playoff game.

I agree that the coaching staff has given up, not just MM. given Jerry doesn't like to have coaches dead money, he is running MM to the end of his contract and not giving them any support. coaches aren't stupid, they work around talent and after the off season, and not signing anyone and losing players, they knew its going to be hard. MM is being quiet as he can, but he is throwing little jabs at Jerry like how the off season was handled and how players are signed in April, not in september.

so once they saw the results after a few weeks, they knew this is not going to go well. they are just going through motions, with bland game plans, knowing with this group they had not chance. now Jerry can say all he wants on TV and for the benefit of the casual fans, but he knows this is not a good roster and he took too many risks.

the injuries hurt, but this team looked bad even before injuries, so with injuries its worse.

we all knew what Rush was. but Dak haters just kept pumping up Rush.... surprise I haven't seen a Leeblair post claiming victory after the Texans game, but I am sure that's coming.

the OL is a problem, no doubt, but RBs aren't good. zeke is slow slow slow. Dowdle has zero vision and not very good footwork. he doesn't run to day light as they say.

before the season I thought we were an 8-9 win team at best. given the injuries we are about what I thought we would be.

I'd ask....how is the QB supposed to be good or better if the OL is bad? How does that work? Josh Allen, Mahomes, and all the other QBs current performances would be hampered and take a dip, with a bad OL. We've been stuck on thinking our OL is good for some time. Just curious how this is not recognized. Our OL is bad, not decent.......bad.

I don’t dislike Diggs but he refuses to tackle. That’s unacceptable.

Well yes. It all is self-fulfilling. If you don't build a good team around your best players, they will struggle to perform.

“Dak is a very good QB”.

Ruined the whole post, cause now nothing else in it can be taken seriously.
