Cowboys source, Cowboys close to deal with Osa $21 Million a year

I've gone back and forth on Osa as to whether we should pay up big to keep him.
Overall I really like him. He's the best DT we have and a very solid NFL player. He's also young and durable, which is important.
When I saw the 20+ number floated, my feeling was almost just let him go, and use that money on multiple players. I had seen Milton Williams projection at 13 while Osa was 21. I think I'd rather sign Williams then add a vet like Jarran Reed/Shelden Rankins (maybe even Jonathan Allen). I'd rather have the top end depth at the position and I don't feel Osa is worth more that much more than Williams.
On the other hand, I doubt Williams goes that low and the cap is exploding, so we need to understand that 21 APY for 4 years today is like a 12APY just a few years ago.
We need a "real" IDL rotation, I hope we finally understand that. My fear is they spend on Osa, then feel they have done enough, with Mazi and players like Linval Joseph filling in the gaps. That won't cut it. We need a real, NFL quality DL rotation. IMO we need at least one more FA, even if we do pay up for Osa. A Rankins/Reader/Reed type, then Mazi and another early pick. We've had a JV IDL rotation for years, time to fix that.
So I'm OK with paying Osa, just hope we realize it's not enough for the position. We need more.

Lol, this is good. He is one of the top free agents. They still need to draft some dtackles in this draft.
It's not good. The fact he's one of the top free agent DTs should be a red flag. It means that the DT market is weak this offseason and that mid-level guys like Osi will get overpaid.

The Cowboys should not be the ones to do it. It is amazing how some of you just refuse to get this stuff.

They didn't overpay and they can sign whoever they want.

If Osa is off the market Milton's price should go up. One thing to consider is Milton got single coverage because he played with Jalen Carter, while, Osa received a lot more attention from OL.

I would really like to see Kenneth Grant next to Osa and see how that works out. Run stopping DTs are still on the grocery list.
Maybe. In the past, they have not been. Think Jerry has really changed this much?

If true, this falls in line with paying top dollar for mediocrity and then crying the cap prevents them from going after blue chip FA..

TOO MUCH. I think you can go grab 2-3 decent DL players and still be under 20/year

Grass is always greener
U guys can’t ***** about not paying and then complain we are paying a guy everyone else would
Doesn’t work that way

Hoping Eberflus gets his way like Marinelli did, but the confidence is in the DC.
I wish Zimm would've gotten his way. He desperately wanted Tavondre Sweat in the 1st over Guyton. Dude was beyond beast in TENN.

So the Eagles have Carter at DT for pennies on the dollar...and we are going to sign a 2 down specialist DT at top dollar...and then build around that with draft picks and free agent castaways?
This is an how you run an ego-invested organization.
