TRADED Cowboys trade for Joe Milton

He didn't just want to go anywhere...any team. He looked at the team with the highest paid player in the NFL and said to himself "hmmmm....I think I'm better than him"
This is what you want to be the case…..but truthfully I would think his agent knows Dak is starting for the next 3 years due to his salary……

Funny thing is….Milton has played more football than Lance and Lance is younger lol. He may be a bust but this team didn’t even devlop him.

It’s weird how excited this fanbase is over Milton but was pissed off we trade a 4th for Lance.
Lance is younger by months not years. They both were born in 2000. Milton has three years left under a 6th round pick contract. The front office and coaches wanted Milton together. Milton is here to be a backup.

The Cowboys traded for Lance to put heat under Dak to sign an extension. Lance had only two seasons left on a first round pick contract. It appears Jerry traded for Lance without informing the front office or coaches. Lance was here to put a fire under Dak.

I saw him play for years. Overthrow one wide open WR after another. He literally ran out of bounds on his opponents 15 yd line long after time had expired instead of chucking one into the endzone to give his team a chance. Too stupid to realize the implications. 3 years at TN, never learned how to run the offense. NE very publicly puts him up for trade, their best offer, and I suspect their only offer, was trading up 30 spots at the very bottom of a bad draft. He couldn't beat out Grier in an honest competition, but the 2 fools who run this team will no doubt keep him around as a pipe dream for the next couple years.
You need to watch him over the last year. A good chance that he will be a Cowboy for many years.

They should’ve aimed higher I don’t think he lit any fire to anyone.

Grier is a backup. Cooper is a backup. Milton is a backup. They could have kept Cooper, go with Grier or get a veteran QB for a backup.
Why would they go with Cooper Rush for 6 million a season? Why wouldn't they take the upside that Milton gives them at 1 million a season?

Well, Rush is making 3x the money and has zero percent chance to develop beyond what he is today.

Grier is awful and worse than Rush.

I think most fans have been asking for the Cowboys to have a developmental QB on the roster for years and that’s what they have now and they got one for moving down 41 spots on day three of the draft.

It’s very low risk.
Some said Lance was low risk. The Cowboys need to invest a higher draft pick to develop a QB instead of getting other teams cast offs. I doubt Milton will be a franchise QB. I hope I'm wrong.

Ultimately our franchise QB needs to be a first round pick. And as long as this team, thinks they are contenders they will never invest a first round pick in a qb.

This team has too many needs to get rid of picks for a backup QB. They could have got a veteran QB for a backup.

Agreed. After all these years of mediocrity, it's amazing to me how worked up our fans still get about these basically pointless moves. This is a guy who someday "might" be a backup. People just keep licking up the slop Jerry keeps serving.

Everything happens for a reason. I’d much rather have a back in this draft than last. Lance sucks. Sure. But they sucked at developing him and they shouldn’t repeat that with Milton.
One major difference between the Lance trade and Milton is timing. We got Lance the night before the last preseason game. We’re getting Milton before the draft, OTAs, mini camp, TC and preseason. 2024 was basically a wash for Lance getting here so late. But with Milton we have 3 full seasons including camp and preseason games. Hopefully that plays a role in Milton’s development.

I’m hopeful with this trade

Lance came in 2023 though.

The question is can the Cowboys’ staff develop Milton? He has the physical measurables for sure: but can he develop the intangibles to be a legitimate starting QB in the NFL? At this juncture in his career appears to be more of an athlete than football player. Time will tell, but late round QBs like Tom Brady and Russell Wilson don’t grow on trees.
He has no accuracy,

His draft profile is brutal.
