Video: Joe Milton - All-22 Film Review

Cowboy should show him film of Cam Newton. He’s got the same build as him same athleticism.

That’s exactly who they should model this kid after.

Get creative down there get smart in Texas for a change.
imo he has a better arm than Newton who had this huge windup motion,Milton can just zip it in a flash.

Do you believe after film study that if he stayed as a backup at Tennessee, that he would have been the first QB taken in the draft this year?
Yeah man definitely. Cleveland should go up and trade next years 1 to us for him.

Just reviewing the one regular season game he has on tape. Because you hate him or have an opinion is to your own. He has 1 game of regular NFL season tape and this is it for you to judge what he can be.

This is not me saying he is a future all-pro but if you can’t see even a sliver of potential thanks for watching and move on.

Not to take away from Milton's performance, he did show that he can play at least against lower level NFL talent. A few notes though...

  • This was a meaningless game for Buffalo that saw them rest several starters.
  • He did have what would have been a league leading 3.33 (pff) or 3.63(nfl.com) second time to pressure if he had enough snaps to qualify.
    • Part of this was excellent protection from his OL, but part of this is also his ability to get out of the pocket and buy time
  • Milton faced an insane 44% blitz percentage. Given his time to throw with such a high blitz percentage his high completion percentage should not be a huge surprise
Overall this just isnt a realistic game that Milton would see as an actual starter. He operated largely from a clean pocket. He had a ton of 1st read throws. I'm also seeing a lot of basic coverages from the video and Buffalo seemed to try to confuse him more through pressure and delayed blitzing than through disguising coverages.

Still the arm strength is very real. The mobility is very real. Tough to really hold anything against Milton from this tape, I just think Milton still has a lot of boxes to check before we can label him a potential starter. Still the guy should be able to be a legitimate QB2 from day 1 based on his physical skills alone. Hes sort of the exact opposite of a Cooper Rush.
Thanks, someone who objectively just watched the film. Not sure why I’m getting so much hate for cutting up tape and evaluating a player for who he is at the NFL level

I believe possibly that you were thinking I was a franchise QB or bust fandude but I promise you I understand exactly what you are advocating and suggesting.
All I'm trying to say is that it's worth the price we have been paying 4/5s is worth the look at least.
Jerry's knee started shaking when he heard a word saying no problem Jerry, we will send you Trance for that lame ole 4th rounder.
I really believe that Jerry knew to step out on this one, and Milton was a very nice value in trade not only because of upside but term of contract as well.
Thanks for having my back on this film study Typhus, this was simply all I was trying to get across.

A project player who we would gladly take a flier on with the draft capital given up and the film supports that.

It takes me a few hours to cut up the film and put this out there. Getting this information isn’t easy and it’s not a joke.

I do this for the person who doesn’t have the time to go and watch it on their own. So thank you for everyone providing me feedback and objective analysis.

I’ll never get better until you guys comment and tell me what you want me to do differently - I appreciate the conversation here as I was trying to bring an objective and always POSITIVE view to our newly acquired players.

If you’re looking for me to do an ALL 22 review and crap on a kid who had 114 passer rating i’m not sure how you’d like me to do that.

Joe went against back ups. That one backup KAIIR ELAM is traded to us to be a starter. There’s nothing I can do about his competition, he played within the gameplan - won the game and was SUCCESSFUL doing what the coached asked.

If you want to crap on the kid to say he sucks - that’s your own opinion and from the 29 pass attempts I did not come to that conclusion.

I wouldn't sweat it too much, the haters just come with the territory. I think most people don't understand how difficult it is to make these videos, and for others a bit of jealousy that kicks in.

It's something I've been playing around with myself. I'm not looking to turn it into a revenue stream or anything, but just enjoy watching film. Just invested in a decent screen recording/editing software and that alone is an uphill battle to learn. Add in trying to make a viewer friendly experience in both presentation and not losing them by fumbling over your words while trying to analyse, pause/rewind, highlight on screen, etc. is quite the task.

You have a solid presentation, thumbnails look good. Background music/audio seems to be much improved over some of your older videos I saw. Keep it up as long as it stays fun for you.

Only real critical feedback I would give is some of the actual analysis part is surface level. QB breakdowns are especially difficult as everything on screen effects the QB, but if this is something you want to eventually turn profitable you might look into some film breakdown classes to offer up some deeper insights. A little pricey but JT O'Sullivan has a really good QB one where you'll be able to talk more about mechanics, presnap analysis & coverage, protections, etc. Right now I think the shorts you are putting out are going to be a lot more popular than your long form videos.

thanks @thunderpimp91 definitely have come a long way into this Journey to the NFL. All of the content creation, graphics design and presentation is tweaked constantly to attempt to give the viewer the best experience.

I think I have the analysis knowledge as I worked at PFF but it’s doing it on screen and getting it all out there to articulate what i’m trying to get across has been a learning experience.

I’ll get better, and hoping by the season the videos have gotten to a place where zoners enjoy them much more. Thank you brother.

What was Dak coming into the league, a tulip?
Just stop. Dak was a starter for 2.5 years and threw 70 TDs behind a weak OL.

Milton was a starter for 1 year and threw half as many TD. Played about half the games as Dak at Michigan and LSU.

Dak had a much better college career and was thought of as a sleeper that draft.

I think Milton completed 30 pct of his passes beyond 10 yards. He is the prototype athlete and went in the 6th round for a reason.

Just stop.

our fans are like that. they’ll crap every signing. those who say he’s Trey Lance all over again i don’t agree. Milton seems fearless to make throws. Lance seemed very cautious hesistant wanted the perfect window to make something happen. not this kid. i really liked the acquisition and even though i don’t watch film myself i appreciate people who do take the time and know what they’re talking about.

The Cowboys could save a lot of time by following Bill Parcels philosophy.
