The Cowboys have roughly 38 million dollars of cap space left!

Wow, $38 million, I was thinking it was around $20 million.

I can easily see 5 or 6 players at the $1.1 million being released. But they will need to sign other players to replace them.
Not sure what the rookie cap pool is, have they announced it yet?

I do not see any vet FA out there that will demand a lot of money. They only way that cap spaced is used, besides several of their own players. Is if they make a trade and absorb that players contract.

I see them more of doing nothing, other than for Parsons and Bland, possibly Smith extensions.
Then whatever they can carry over into 2026, they will be in great shape to sign players that will actually help get us to the SB.

Build this year with the draft as usual. Make big FA moves in 2026. As 2025 is still part of the soft rebuild.
They always rollover 20M for the next season.

Minus the 11M for the draft

That leaves around 8M

Jerry and Co. just want the fans to be invested at what they might do at the trade deadline with that cash. I doubt much if any of it gets used except for the incoming draft class.

With the draft coming up, we will need to pay our rookies, so there's a little fee for that. You may not get the guy that you want, so after the draft we may look at sign a few veterans who we have on our radar. We're clearly mindful of the comp pick formula timeframe which is sometime after the draft (April 28th?).

You sign Micah Parsons finally to his mega deal, and you gain more money.

It'll be interesting to see how much of it we use, and how much we roll over. If I'm the Cowboys, I lock up Tyler Smith also. But what do I know, I'm just a guy with a family, who wants your thoughts! Please give me your thoughts!

I believe if you look closer you will see Zak Martins dead money isn’t accounted for, that’s around 9 million this year and 17 next, add in rookie pool and UDFA you’re looking at about 5 million or so so shrink that 37 by 14-15 . History says they will carry somewhere around 20 for next year so I don’t see any big surprises coming

Yes, but they eventually must use the $20 million for players if they are serious about getting to the SB.

Maybe the $100,000 interest they gain in the bank is more important, than the Millions they will make from a mother SB.

Personally, I've already given up on next season, they can't improve enough to be competitive so I'm hoping they keep their powder dry as much as is possible til next year.

I could be even more negative and say that they may as well stop trying until Dak is history but I don't want to come across as dangerously miserable
FACTS

I don't know why we haven't extended Tyler Smith yet. 24 years old, All-Pro, no weaknesses in his game, no injury concerns. As far as mega-deals go, he's as low risk as you're going to get. Pay the man.
No cap $$$$

He’s on a rook contract.

I believe the CBA requires teams to spend 90 percent of the cap.

Dallas always keeps a cushion for the rollover.

I think that is over a 2 or 3 year time frame. I think they can go less for 1 or 2 years, but there is still a minimum.
I am not sure, just something I read a while back. Unless it has now changed to the 90% as the minimum.

Yes, make this a "prove it" year for Bland.
If they draft a CB higher in the draft. That may be a sign what direction they may go.That and with trading for Elam they may be looking at replacing Diggs and Bland.
He’s a good DB.

But UFA next year.

He won’t be taking a pay cut to stay.

Can’t afford to keep.

Yeah under the current CBA it's 89% spend from 2017-2020, 90% spend from the periods of 2021-2023, 2024-2027, and 2027-2030. Also keep in mind that it's cash spend not cap spend. This is important because Dak made $86M in cash last year, but just $44M counted against the cap. This is how teams can game the system a bit and rollover extra cap every (or most every) year without missing the minimum spend requirements.

They should probably consider a larger Parsons cap hit in 2025 if they're not going to do anything with it.

......and Stephen Jones made a comment on radio yesterday that the Cowboys have "spent up to the cap".

No other team does business like the Jones Boys. And they still think they are smarter than anybody else while January 28, 1996 fades deeper and deeper into the history books every passing minute.

That yacht fuel is expensive, we gotta save on those players salaries to make up the difference !!!!

Yeah its like Stephen Jones still thinks fans live in the 90s. We literally have real time cap numbers to look at anytime we want now. I wish he would just be honest and acknowledge that the 2026 cap isnt in the best of shape (mostly from their own faults) and they really need the carry over money.
