Schottenheimer hire is growing on me

Oh look all the piranhas attacked. You know what’s actually worse than Jerry, is most if the so called fans on.

I was always fine with the hire given what we have. Would I have preferred an established guy like Vrabel coming in here and setting an asskicking tone, sure, but Jerry and his cheap son weren't having that.

Considering we don't even have the players to do much, I'm fine giving him a chance. If we hit on a bunch of picks, show we have the roster to go deep, and coaching holds us back, I'll change my mind. But for now he should be given as much a chance as any coordinator getting his first shot.

Schotty will pull a lot of fans In because he’s a great speaker with lots of energy.

He took a dead franchise and turned it into a contender. Developed a legit QB out of an UDFA. They got the one seed the year after he left.

It worked out. Jerry just screwed it up…again.
If you think that worked out then you must think Wade, Mike and Garrett worked out to.

You don’t think Parcells turned the entire franchise around? 5-11 three straight years with no QB in sight to one seed with a legit QB in place.

Their best team since 1995 was in 2007. Who built it? Puppet Wade? Jerry?

Yeah they didn’t win but he at least put us in the right direction before Jerry said ‘times up, I’ll take it from here’ after things were in place.

I’d sign for that chance all day right now vs 83 year old Jerry trying to win in this league draft pick by draft pick only.

If the objective is to win then no. He was a good hire because he did take us from the toilet. But the bar was so low and IMO it resulted in us hiring Garrett and Wade.

I’ve been pretty lukewarm on everything Cowboys since they have decided to back up the Brinks truck for Dak. Can’t remember being this negative about the Cowboys ever. But the more that I look at the Schotty hire, the more I wonder if he might have actually been a really solid hire.

Dak sucks. Actually Dak sucks really bad. But if Schotty builds a running attack like his dad did, then Dak can pretty much just hand off the ball, looks stupid, collect his checks, smoke cigarettes on the sidelines and talk about all the wins in which he wasn’t really a factor.
Its first year excitement. Give it a year and he will suck too. No one succeeds under joneses. He Bowls everyone over eventually. Remember garrett was a character guy too

I agree with you. I also was thinking about Vrabel the other day. The way he has cleaned house in NE, no way Jerry would've been okay with that.

The other step child
He talks the talk, but I've seen a 100 of those in the NFL lasting for about 1 to 2 seasons.
I have seen it actually work once or twice, but usually coaches who have "it" rise up fast, land in the NFL, stay in the NFL. In a handful of years or less, they make it to head coach.
There's a reason lifelong assistants. Stay lifelong assistants, LOL.
He's going to be Jason Garrett part II
Talks the talk, knows all the correct sentences, but is not a leader of men..
I REALLY DO HOPE I'M WRONG.
He’s likely a better coach than Garrett, considering he’s actually been a coach. With that said, he has a terrible roster and terrible GM. He’s going to have a bad year.

To me a lot of it comes down to attitude and attention to detail. I think it is not just an OK hire but a really good hire and that includes his staff. I think from what you hear Klayton Adams is a future HC and I like everything I hear about our new OL coach as well. I think the two of them are going to really help this team and it's going to start with the OL. We all know what happened with Eberflus as a HC, but I think he is a good choice as a DC. Schotty was brought here as an OC but never really was allowed to fill that role. McCarthy pretty much ran his offense and was a HC/OC. To me the successes or failures of our team had little to do with Schotty. I love his attitude and his thoughts on the type of player he wants. We know from their constant comments that they want players who love football and are high character people. He is the anti-Jerry in that respect. It seems like for the first time in a very long time this team has a vision for what they want to be and how they want to build a team. I just get the feeling we finally have "football guys" in charge of the team again. I think they are coaches who will stress fundamentals and tackling and who won't tolerate players missing meetings and the such. I suspect any of our younger players in particular who aren't all in and completely dedicated (like supposedly our 1st rounder from last year) are going to have a very difficult season.

The problem IMO is that I don't think that turning around both the culture (stressing turning around the culture because we need it) and the on the field performance of this team is a one year job. I think we have little chance of doing much of anything this year and I hope this coaching staff is given a minimum of two years to build the team and show whether or not they were the right men for the job. I think it might be a rough year 1 even IF they were the right men for the job. This was definitely "the road less traveled" in terms of picking a new HC and staff, but are any of you telling me you watch the press conferences and listen to these guys talk and read about these guys and you think it isn't an improvement over where we were and potentially a huge improvement? Time will tell, but personally I think Jerry got this one right. Heck, maybe it's not even a coincidence that we have heard less from him this offseason than in any other year in the past couple of decades...:starspin:

So a nepo baby coach who is the walking definition of mediocrity who fails upward has grown on you? And Dallas fans wonder why their team sucks.
Can you as a fan of the Cowboys at least wait until Shotty fails to declare his inequities? We don't as of yet know definitely that he is gonna fail now do we? Time to cheer up and cheer on your chosen team! Go Cowboys, let's Go!

Lol Garrett constantly preached high character guys who loved football. This pick is no better than Garrett, might be even worse. Garrett had interest as HC for other teams when he was OC, schottenheimer hasnt
That might be true last year but not in his career. He turned down a shot at being the Bills head coach because he felt he wasn't ready and was happy with the Jets. His resume isn't as bad as what people make it seem. Nothing wrong with feeling a little optimism. This hire still has chance to go either way and he is saying the right things currently.

And people wonder why Dallas fans are hated more than the team.......

Jerry can fill a 55-gallon drum full of horse crap and some, like the OP, will happily eat every last bit of it like it's a barrel full of ice cream.
And people wonder why Dallas fans are hated more than the team....

Jerry, can fill a 55 gallon drum full of gold and some fans are so stupid, that they won't bother to check and see if it's real. They'd rather we go 0-17, so they can prop up their collar and say, i told you so....wouldn't piss on those yahoos, if they were on fire.

Dak Prescott was literally 2nd in MVP voting 2 seasons ago. He was on pace to have another MVP worthy season last season prior to his injury. Your comment is baseless, insulting, and an example of a character attack gone wrong. Do better
Romo got a 1st place vote for MVP in 2014 (some dak never achieved) and frankly could have won it that year and in 2016 he played in only 1 series.

Slak was 3-5 last season and playing like crap when he broke himself with a non-contact injury. He's toast.

Schotty might have a chance to put his face on the franchise sine jerry takes a lot of naps so he won't be around as much and his kid is really to lazy to interfere much.

I personally like him as a Person. How he's going to be as a coach i think your going to see more of a mentor father figure, which is good for kids coming out of college and a young team. not sure how he's going to deal with spoiled man children that are all about the money and not about the record. i think like i've said before its going to take half the season to really see who and how he's going to be as a football coach of americas team.

Most of us probably wanted more of a disciplinarian coach to whip the jack balls in place but here we are. lets give him this season before we crucify him.
