Drafted by Cowboys NFL Draft: Day 3 thread

Yes, they have other DT’s. Look at the roster. Got one in FA actually.
That FA was Solomon Thomas though, 3T listed under 300lbs…..i thought we should have picked the massive 1T black that the Steelers got….no faith in the starter Mazi sadly and behind that? I get we need LB, but this LB could have been picked up in the 6th, it was a reach. Need both positions, and WR. Will see how it turns out I guess.

Because of the 2 trades - Jerry for Mingo, we had to wait 70 odd picks. Now trading up for an overdrafted Lber, we wait 52 picks. We are not a smart team.
In no way are we catching the Damm Eagles or Chiefs etc. It's not fun being a Cowboys fan these days.
Draft isn't the reason we're not catching the Eagles or the Chiefs.

Why pick him and not have him compete? You take Gabriel in the 3rd because he's a safe pick. Kid is a Saint off the field, but his upside is very limited. Naming Flacco the starter without seeing what the young guys can do isn't smart football. There's no future there. We don't even know how he will look with another year of wear and tear behind him. The man is 40 years old and was no Tom Brady or Peyton Manning in his prime.

Sanders, despite what people on this board are saying, can play in the pros. He completed 71.8% of his passes at Colorado and showed the ability to make all of the throws needed to run an NFL offense. Attitude is supposedly an issue. None of us can speak on the interviews throughout the draft process, but from a physical standpoint, he has the ability. That doesn't mean he will for sure win the job, but to say he definitely won't is an impossible assessment to make without seeing how he performs in camp.
You don’t pick a 5th round QB to compete for the starting job. 32 GMs don’t think he is pro ready. His completion percentage is padded with a lot of short throws but drops rapidly when he is asked to make big boy throws. He holds the ball too long and his arm strength is mediocre at best and his mobility is very limited. Then you add in the attitude problems.

You drafted him in the 5th for the same reason the other QBs in the 5th-7th will be drafted: to be a developmental quarterback who might be worthwhile in a year or two.

I would love another RB and another CB, along with a DT like Georgia’s Stackhouse.

Let’s not forget that Javonte Williams may make it hard for another RB to win the position. He will now be two years removed from injury. He’s 5’10” and 220 lbs, and the guy is still only 25 years old.

Fans always believe a guy will be available when they think he should be but just doesn't happen that way for various reasons. If fans an analysts were right then 12 guys that every one of them predicted to be 1st round wouldn't have been available day 2. Same goes for some 20 guys after day 2.

Just because we think Blue would have been available doesn't make it so. Same goes for James and heck we don't even know that he is going to be a LB or S. Many mocks had us taking Nick Martin in 6th because that is where he was slotted but went in 3rd.

Still have four picks left and then the UDFAs which we are good at finding gems. I don't have much faith in Jerry's "substantial " trades unless it is a WR that is worthwhile.

Have to see how it all plays out.

Eberflus comes from the Kiffin/Marinelli school of thought where he values penetration over bulk. I'm not sure he'll be drafting a big NT type.

The good news is that Eberflus has had some pretty good run defenses. But I'd have to look at the hosses he had up front when he had that success.

Anyone surprised Will Howard is still available? All the media drama surrounding Sanders and they forgot about Howard?

Solid post....as long as Jerrah the Fossil owns this team we aren't winning jack

That's apparently what we are counting on. I have trouble counting on a back, though, who has averaged 3.7 YPC the last two years. If all we do is add the FAs we've added and some late-round draft picks, we've devalued the position again, just like we did last year.

Fair point, part of the issue is lack of faith in Mazi…..OSA is good and Solomon is serviceable, we REALLY need Mazi to step up since we don’t have much else at DT.

Good post.
Too bad many will not read it, or will disregard it if they do.

Do you really believe he dropped in the draft for on-field performance? He was a near unanimous first round talent that fell because he failed the interview process. That doesn't mean that all of a sudden he's less a player than he was a few months ago. It means there were character concerns that scared NFL GMs away. As I said, if his head is on straight come training camp, he has the ability to win the job. That doesn't mean Cleveland will hand him the job. He will have to take it, and considering the competition, that is not out of the question. Don't forget that #4 in Dallas was a 4th round pick, and he was a choir boy coming out. Crazier things have happened.
