Pickens appears to be a poor risk

And I think this is why some fans are excited. They’d prefer taking a risk than doing nothing.

I get it. And he’s a solid talent . Could be a great deal. But the baggage he carries and potential of not resigning him raises the red flags.
They acquired the absolutely best receiver available hands down.

A hater always dwells on the negatives and can’t or refuses to see the positives. It’s always, “but…..”

Oh. So it’s not about Pickens at all but other stuff earlier in the off season.
It’s the lack of any coherent plan. To effectively manage your cap you have to be making decision year or more before a player hits FA. Why let a guy walk that has trade value? Either make the decision you are gonna extend him or trade him while he has a year left. Why take a guy like Lewis and sign him to one year deals when you could have signed him for much less than he got last year and had him here, and at a reasonable price. I didn’t like the Mingo trade from the beginning because while he had 2 years left, which is good, the price of a 4th wasn’t. Now you have a 4th in Mingo who at most will be a part time 3rd reciever. He’s not gonna be there all the time because Turpin will be some and I think blue will be too. Blue runs routes like a WR, is a playmaker so you want the ball in his hands in ways you have him out in space, not just pounding between the guards. It’s also contracts. Almost every extension turns into a long drawn out thing that in the end costs more

I did a search and I didn't come up with anything. I was wondering if he may be related to the old Bengals receiver Carl Pickens. Maybe a nephew or something. But my searching was unsuccessful.

We all know the negatives about Pickens, but this can work out for the Cowboys in many ways.

1. This is his contract year. He realizes he needs to be at this best, on and off the field, or else his payday will not come. This means he will do his best to play lights out for the Cowboys, which is great for the team.

2. This is not necessarily a one year rental. Even if Dallas wants to keep him in 2026, the franchise tag remains an option. The cap will only increase and Micah Parsons' deal will be (in theory) done by then. Which, believe it or not, helps the Cowboys create room to keep Pickens.

3. Let's say they don't keep Pickens, which means he played so well in 2025 Dallas can't afford him. That's another win. Let him sign a huge deal elsewhere, and gain a 3rd round comp pick in 2027 as a result. That's two extra picks from this trade in 2027, a comp for Pickens and the 6th Pittsburgh gave up.

Short term and long term, this is a trade that can do nothing but help.

Headcase receivers tend to chill out with a real QB. As many issues as I have with Dak, he's certainly much better than Pickett and Fields.

It all comes down to do you wait until the ball is snapped and results come in before you cheer.

A homer is just as much a negative description as hater. Neither we’d hold much validity in their agendas and opinions.

Positive always wins over negative.

I would have been totally on board if we had signed him in FA. But giving up draft picks with the issues attached brings uncertainty and valid critique. Doesn’t mean it could turn out well.

They did a pick swap and gave a 3rd rounder for one of the best receivers in the league. This was a huge move.

That’s pretty much it. If you’re into next season only, it works….if a few other things pan out also.

If it’s a whirlwind romance with GP, then you have to say goodbye. He ain’t coming cheap unless something went wrong, in which case you may not want him.

If this was coupled with a better effort toward run defense this year, I’d be much more in…..but this is a move Jerry is willing to do to keep his head above water, not get over the top, because they aren’t there without some miracle fast development by very recent draftees.

Yes, and if he becomes more than a 1 year rental becoming a starter for another contract it will be considered a solid move.

But again we must wait and cheer when the results come in.

Yep. And that’s basically all our idiot in chief is interested in. Hyping and promoting one season at a time.

I’d take reality over both.

Most prefer cheering after the results of the play instead of before the ball is snapped. Except of course the cheerleaders.
Being positive is reality. This “reality” business is just an excuse for being a hater.

Not only are we giving up a 3rd and a 5th next year but we basically are signing him for only one season. On a team that isn’t one player away.

His rookie deal runs out and why Steelers traded him as he seems unwilling to negotiate. On top of that he’s a head case. His emotions are difficult to keep in check.

He was fined for using an expletive on his eye black against the Cowboys. He also drew wide spread criticism in 2023 for what could generously be described as the attentive downfield blocking for his teammates.

Considering his volatility, the Steelers didn’t seem interested in signing Pickens to a contract extension running out of patience for the talented but mercurial former 2nd round pick. A 3rd and 5th looks like they found an anxious taker.
I'm getting different reports

Our owner always wants to hype and promote that possibility. And some of these fans follow that rhetoric.

While I suppose there’s always a glimmer of hope until there’s not most fans understand the reality of the situation.
I've not heard Jerry say a word about this trade. I've not heard a word from Jerry about acting.

"Most fans?"
Reality is what you say it is? The thing about you is you think all fans that aren't as bitter as you are about the Cowboys are stupid and buy into some magical hype machine that exists in YOUR WORLD.

Any fan that comes to this forum is not your avg fan. I'm pretty sure I've NEVER seen a single person on this site say wec ate winning the SB this upcoming season. It would be stupid to do so, even if you were a Chiefs fan.

But you somehow make up stories of all the"Dumb," fans that come in here buying up your magical hype.

Being critical of a sports team you support isnt being a hater. If I hated the Cowboys I wouldnt be here.

I miss my team. And am disgusted that Jed has turned this franchise into a laughing stock.
