Are we really better off at RB than last year?

Time will tell. Blue is the wild card who will determine the answer to this question but no matter how much we want to assume our draft picks will all turn out great, the odds say a 5th round pick will not be a superstar. Might he be? Of course. But the betting odds are going to say not for at least year 1. So as we sit here today I'd say that once we switched to Rico last year we likely were better than we will be this year at RB BUT, our OL should be better, we now have 2 WRs and hopefully Dak will play a full season instead of Rush playing half the year. So, personally I think our running game will be better in 2025 than it was in 2024 and that's what matters in a team game where all parts influence all other parts

I won't disagree with higher ceiling. We knew what Zeke was last year when we brought him back. We knew what Cook was. We knew what Freeman had been. The only players we didn't know the full potential of was Dowdle and Deuce.

This year, we really should have a good idea of what Sanders and Williams is. Maybe they can revive their careers here, but that's just hope without evidence. The two rookies provide more of the unknown. We can know based on where they were drafted that they weren't considered the sure bets at the position in this draft, but there is potential there.
Nice post.

The passing game should help with two strong threats on the outside. Cooks had slipped to the point where he wasn't much of a threat and none of the WRs behind him were good enough to make defenses have to keep their safeties back. And still Dowdle managed to average 4.6 per carry, so that's a hopeful sign, especially since he did it for the coordinator who is now head coach.

Zeke stunk it up so bad in 22, they brought him back in 24.

Head scratcher there. Because he was obviously done in New England too. It's not like he went there and improved.
I actually had some (false) hope for Elliott. His last two years before going to New England, he started off well but legs injuries took his legs out from under him. I wasn't sure what happened to him in New England, because I don't watch the Patriots, but thought if he could get back to the form he showed in the early part of those years that he might could contribute. He was cooked, though.

I'm not going to think better of these two backs we've got that averaged under 4 YPC for two years straight this time until they prove they can do better. I have some hope that Williams has more left in his legs because he hasn't been used as much, but right now, he's just a back who has averaged 3.6 and 3.7 the last two years and may never get back to where he was before tearing an ACL.

It was proof positive that Jerry Jones completely whiffed every opportunity to upgrade the position in both 2023 and 2024.

There simply wasn't anyone left.

We should have resigned Doodle. When he got blocking he was very good. He had the ability to make guys miss and he ran really hard. Good blocker too.

I think Doodle is better than any of the guys we picked up.

Mike Solari is a legend.
Who should have stayed in the past.

I will give him some credit. I thought some young players like Hoffman and Bass improved under him. However, it seemed like others took a step back. I mean, Tyler Smith did become an All-Pro, but you have to wonder how much of that is due to Solari or despite him.

No, but perhaps it's far better than being negative and fault-finding jerks. Help is on the way!
Prove it. Was helpbon the way 30 friggin years ago? Was it on the way 10 yrs ago? Last year?

Stop drinking the snake oil.

We’ll see I think the Oline got better last year when Martin went out

Steele started slow got better as the year progressed in the run game

I think booker is an upgrade over all last years rg play and hopefully guyton improves

I think the run game will be better. We definitely are faster
Faster? How?

Blue? Provided he even makes the team, he has a long way to go to even earn playing time.

He is NOT Gibbs. He is not Sproles. He is not Barry Sanders.

He IS a 5th round pick who fumbles a lot and has never been a starter.

But wowser, he runs a 4.38 40. Sooooo cooool.

Our RB "situation"...depends on our O-line, our scheme, and our QB able to operate the offense, read the defense, and call the options. Like 10% RB and 90% rest of the team. I'm not a huge fan of Barry Sanders...but some consider him the best RB ever....or close to it. Many blame his team for lack of success.

So even if we had Barry Sanders....would we be significantly better? Not with previous personnel and scheme. Can you pronounce "brick wall"?

i HATE...that we wasted Zeke...not only running but we told him he had to block for this ASININE o-line and scheme. We were idiots. Would barry sanders have done that Would Barry hike the ball and be the whole o line? He'd say F you and DID say it in better conditions.

Fix the o line. Fix the scheme. Fix the QB...and see the RB able to operate. Otherwise peeing in the wind.
Seriously. So we need 3 1st round picks on the O Line. Plus a third.

Find 1 other team that has 3 first round picks there. Let alone 2 friggin 1st round guards.

Replace Deuce with a FA DT. We don't need 4 ball carriers. A TE can take Luepke's role. And we need to stack up on at least mid-level veteran talent.
Shshhhhh. You thought Duece was Barry. Yes, I remember. And not a single one of you have come in here and said you were wrong.

I did. Even though I knew I wasnt, but he was GIVEN a roster spot.

But glad you finally realize that wasting roster spots on guys like duece, lance and goodwin makes for a bad roster
