Video: Deuce Vaughn: Energy and Brotherhood

Zeke did nothing but he always managed to fall forward and pick up a yard or two. He wasn’t making negative or no gain plays which has been an issue with Deuce. This is why his career average was only 2.8.
Zeke was definitely making negative plays as well and his long for the year was 11 yards which is shorter than Deuces as well. Not saying Deuce is a starter but he deserved carries over Zeke for sure.

I'm reasonably confident that every member of this website realizes that Deuce needs all the luck that the team can afford him to make his bid to be kept on their roster. Here's wishing him for a genuine opportunity to prove himself in his effort to succeed. He needs to make the most of his chances.

I don’t remember many negative plays with Zeke. He got stuffed at the line of scrimmage a bunch but he always falls forward to squeeze out a yard. The bottomline is neither he or Deuce was the answer which is why Dowdle starting getting the load.

Yea but they acted like Zeke was the starter for like half the season when I knew Dowdle should have been the starter week 1. So I can’t really trust the teams evaluation if it took that long for them to figure it out. Fortunately they’ve made changes to the coaching staff.

Dowdle had issues with injuries and they were trying to keep him fresh and healthy over the 17 games. However, it became apparent he was clearly our best back and once our season was heading in the toilet the Cowboys decided to feed him the load.

I don't know why he bothers you guys so much. He was huge in college, and it's not as if the rest of the NFL has 4th string RBs that are standouts waiting to happen. Maybe he will get released this year, but let's not pretend it was unreasonable to give a shot to a guy that put up the kind of numbers he did in a major conference in college.
He doesn’t bother me, the cavalier attitude of burning a roster position on someone who isn’t contributing to the team bothers me.

And then they always bring up his days in college. Sure, he was a good player at that level, but the NFL is not college.

Heck Vince Young was a college stud who never panned out in the pros. College is a way different world than the pros. Claiming you were something in college is like claiming that you were a star in little league and that your skills will automatically translate to dominating the MLB

What game(s) did McCarthy make an effort to inject Deuce into the game plan or play calling that put him in a place to succeed?
He was given 40 carries over 2 seasons and averaged only 2.8. He had 10 catches for only 58 yards. As a returner he had for 4 returns for only 19 yards. He was given a chance.
So you can't point to any games? None? Not a single one? I know you can't because none exist.

You keep throwing out there his stats like they mean something. They simply don't. Giving him carries so Rico could catch his breath isn't game planning or play calling to best utilize his skills. It's not putting him in the best situation to succeed. That is the head coaches job. McCarthy failed Duece and many others.

It's just sad that Duece was never given a chance. Not a single one. Two wasted years. I still hope he is cut so hopefully some other team will at least give him a chance.

Zeke was a proven player who we had success with in the past and although he did nothing he always managed to fall forward and pick up a yard or two. He wasn’t making negative or no gain plays which has been an issue with Deuce. This is why his career average is only 2.8.
No. Deuce kept getting hit in the backfield. That isn't his fault. Same thing was happening to Zeke last year.

IMO, Deuce needs to be run till either he succeeds or fails or gets injured.

Unfortunately his size does keep him from being a 3 down back, as he can't stay in an block against LBs that are quicker and 50-80 lbs heavier.

So he is a gadget back that wasn't utilized. Either have a plan for him and use him, or let him try his luck with another team.

I suspect if you use him quite a bit, injury due to his size is what you most likely will end up with. My question is does Dallas have a plan to use him at his strengths?

So, I think he was worthy as an UDFA, which Dallas could have likely done.

That's not a knock on Deuce. It's just, there's probably not a need to keep him on the 53, especially if there's obviously no plan to actually play him.

He was always likely a guy you keep on the PS to develop.

That's not on Deuce, unless there's some sort of pressure to activate him, that's on the coaches for bad personnel, roster and game planning.
I agree I don’t see a place for him. I’m more so against the talk he was only drafted for a storyline. The only reason he went as late as he did was because of size not skill.

His cliche answers are annoying, mostly because he hasn't done anything.

I don't hate the player. I hate wasting roster spots on these kinds of players.

If they move him to PS, does another team pick him up?

On a side note, he looks like an Ewok in that hoodie.

"I feel like the game has evolved over the last 10-15 years."

You know, since Darren Sproles played, which has made it almost impossible for guys like me to break the roster.

If he was just a tad bigger, he'd probably be pretty good. Maybe HGH?
I hear there is a surgery to break your thigh bones to increase your height. LOL

He received 7 carries in the first 3 games last season and only gained 20 yards. He had 4 carries vs NO in week 2 and did nothing. All he did was put us behind the chains. You told me you wanted him to get 8 carries a game. We’re never going to agree on him. We’re just rehashing the same stuff over and over. You don’t even think he’s small.
