Deuce Vaughn has Been the Same Size all his Life

What is this, his third or fourth year? He either needs to do something or find another career. At this point he's on the same level as rowdy and I'm really developing Deuce Vaughn fatigue right now.

He may have always been small but he hasn't always been the same size. He was not born the size he is now.
Just had to clarify the OP title.

I don't think the problem with Deuce is his running ability. I think the problem is we have an expensive QB and Deuce is a huge liability in the blocking game. Defensive lines in the NFL are so big and strong they can easily throw him out of the way. If I was a coach I would be afraid to put him in a non running play.

He's not just a liability on the blocking game. He's also a liability as far as weight. When the hole gets clogged up, he gets bottled up and doesn't give you any push.

Yeah, I like his ability to dodge defenders. I think when he gets in space his quickness shows well. However, when he is hit behind the line, he goes down. He has to slip through spaces because he can't power through them.

I know he's been compared in the past to Darren Sproles because of size, but it seems to me that Sproles showed more burst than Vaughn has shown. Vaughn seems to have the same short-area quickness but not the same explosiveness. If you are a smaller player who can get overpowered, you need to have explosiveness to get away from those tacklers.

Right. I think Sproles was about as small as you could be. Still, Sproles took 6 years to become a player over a decade ago. Defenses are even more athletic now.

I don't see Deuce overcoming it. It's just not a good idea.

On a side note, did y'all see that baby truck that kid?

Another Deuce Vaughn thread.

Sproles was listed at 190 pounds and Deuce at 176. I saw him at training camp last summer and he barely looked 160 pounds. He looked like a little kid walking around out there. He’s too small but I have someone here who keeps telling me he’s not small. His future will be in the UFL.

Agreed.

I cannot watch Deuce’s college career and think he’s too small to be in the NFL, considering his size is what made him special in college.

I think if this team cuts him, he goes somewhere like KC or SF and they end up figuring out how to get him in space where he can break ankles.

I think we'll keep him on the practice squad this year. Maybe even for a couple of years. I can't see him making the roster, but also have no idea how his competition will do. He may be the best out of some bad options for a spot. I mean, our two FA signings are both coming off two bad years and Deuce as a sixth-round pick is competing against a fifth-rounder and seventh-rounder. It's not as if we know that our roster is loaded with players who will beat him out. Blue could be Joseph Randle, Mafah could be Bo Scarbrough and Williams and Sanders could be last year's Elliott and Cook for all we know. We hope that's not the case, but won't know until at least the preseason.

College backs generally get a lot more space to work with and Vaughn is good in space. In the NFL, that space tightens up and you have to be able to not only create on your own but regularly break tackles in order to succeed.

I think if we cut him, he ends up on the practice squad because of his size limitations. Maybe some coach will have a package in mind for him that makes him worth picking up, but there's just no evidence at this time that you can use him like an every-down back.

I’ll be surprised if he even makes the practice squad but it’s possible. Just like last off-season, they have him hanging around with the receivers. As a receiver out in space is the only way he’s going to be able to make plays. His biggest issue is he’s competing against bigger players and Blue is faster. Deuce is quick and elusive, but he doesn’t have burner speed.

He won't make the team because he does too many the same exact things Turfin does it's really never been about his size it's about the things he does the best we already have a guy that does it equally or better... Turpin is not big Turpin does hardly ever looks like he ever gets hurt he gets hit hard and he gets right back up the man is tiny they both have a similar skill set you can't have two guys on the team that provide unique skill sets exactly the same he should have never been drafted or he should have never kept on the team if they put him on the practice guard I think it'll get taken immediately there's going to be another team out there that puts him on special teams immediately let's him return punts and kicks and he'll do it very well and then he'll be into the game enough to get 5 to 10 carries a game but do it right smart creative things that they do with turpin behind a line of scrimmage in motion get to the outside but you just can't have two players exactly the same undersized that do the same things...

He simply ended up on the wrong team not saying he's going to have a great NFL career but his upside his special teams first he can return the damn football and then he can do this small sample size gadget place when a team that needs him picks him up because we already have that guy in Turpin I can't say that enough people just don't want to listen it's not about his size it's about not having anything for him to do here...
