I think the expectation is the problem. A lot of fans act like you can expect to find one in the later rounds. You can certainly hope, but it's hard enough hitting on players in the early rounds.

If you need a running back, then I'd suggest drafting one early because of the higher chance of success. If you have a running back, then I'd suggest drafting one late to see if you can hit on the position and fortify it (possibly allowing you to move on from the more expensive back in a year or two).

I think if we re-sign Javonte Williams based on the season he had that we should still draft a running back on the third day of the draft to compete with Blue and Mafah since we don't know at this point exactly what they are going to bring to the table.

Only reason that is a thing in the NFL us that their careers, usually don't last long. It doesn't make fiscal sense for our FOs, so they minimize their worth.

No doubt the Seahawks weren't winning that game without Walker. He put on a clinic last night and showed why RB is still an important position.

As it relates to the view that RB isn't a premium position to draft early, I can understand where that comes from because looking at the last 10-15 years of Super Bowl winners all but 3 truly had top end backs carrying the ball. However to be fair nearly half of those Super Bowls were won by Mahomes or Brady which are generational talents that few teams will ever have. Still though it's all about complimentary football and you have to have a running game that's good enough to keep defenses honest and also your own defense to give your offense a chance. With all that said if you have a team largely in place and RB is the bpa player I wouldn't second guess grabbing one in the first round. If you have holes at several positions like the Cowboys it would have to be a pretty special back to pass on a talented defensive player.

He was great last night, but he’s not particularly well rounded

I dont know man. Hes always been super talented. Injuries had been his biggest problem throughout his career. Walker is a stud, but i couldn't rank him super high because he just hasn't been consistently healthy.

Reality is you dont need a great or elite one. And so you dont spend premium resources on one.

as a Michigan fan I remember the day Walker dominated us all day in a MS win in Ann Arbor.
Yeah you can get great RB's in the 2nd round now, they dont go top 10 anymore (usually) but a stud is a great asset
