DC Parker meeting his new pass rusher Gary

Great addition to the team, I feel Gary is going to surprise a lot of people when he is on the field. I love that he plays with violence and his closing speed is very fast. He is also very good at hand combat against lineman, Green bay can talk bad all they want but I believe he will shine here with Big Q and his old buddy Clark.

For me, He is kinda like Parsons but has a bigger build to him.

Not really worried about edge so much, but that includes believing that EZ is going to take the next step.

They will likely draft one in the first as well.

For the folks who don't understand the FA picks ups and trades, Christian Parker is getting HIS dudes for HIS scheme.

I'm anxious to see what the defensive roster looks like when he is done this summer.
I'm willing to give it a chance. There are reasons for at least a little optimism regarding CP. I'm sure he would've liked more so far but he doesn't write the checks.

you wouldn't know that because we snagged him up first, they had a plan, remember its their plan not mine or yours!!
Are you being serious? Hard to tell. You actually saying Jerry has a plan? Really? Here's the plan - spend the least amount to keep the guppies engaged. That is the plan.

We'll find out what Gary can do for Dallas soon enough, but with a new DC every year, getting "his" guys seems more like chaos than careful planning to me.

Spend the least the man has spent a lot of money, a lot of that is on his own players he's drafted, but he's spent money. You guys want him to break the bank every off season as if that's going to equate to a Superbowl win. Yes we need to add talent, but there's also a draft coming up, and FA isn't over!!!!!

Here's the thing....if he fails, I want him to fail because he just wasn't a good coordinator. I don't want him to fail because he doesn't have the players he wants.

I assume he has told the scouts what he looks for and what he needs. I assume there is some sort of pecking order. Last year we didn't bring in anyone outside that fit what Eberflus needed. Yes, he did a terrible job of trying to adjust....but it is like Parcells said back in the day: "if I am going to cook the meal, shouldn't I be able to buy the groceries?"

He should at least get two years....just like a head coach should probably get 3 years unless it is just ridiculously bad.

Having a plan only goes so far....they sometimes fail. And if they fail, these teams generally go a completely different direction. So chaos is often along for the ride.

I gotta be honest. Gary strikes me as a lesser version of prime D-Law.
And, that ain't a bad thing if you're comparing him to PRIME DLaw (the 25 sacks in 2 years version)...this guy has averaged 8 sacks the last 3 years - I'll take that from my Strong-Side EDGE. NOW, they have to get a running mate to pair with that from Weak-Side EDGE - most likely in the draft at this point UNLESS a sneaky trade is coming.

Parker represents the unknown. Everyone around the league vouching for him is enough for me to want to see what he can do. Listening to him talk about players and defense is a breathe of fresh air that I haven’t seen on either side of the football. I like having the smartest guy in the room as my coach.
Parker may or may not succeed here, but the fact that he is willing to not be a “yes man” (we like our guys) coach is encouraging. I like the moves that have been made so far.

This may not be a one year fix, but so far I like what I am seeing.

The front 7 is going to have bigger defensive tackles, more beef up front it appears. I like what Dallas has done so far, Rashan Gary and the nose tackle Otito Ogbonnia look like good additions on film. I look for Dallas to draft another safety as well; to add to the room with Thompson and Locke, I like Dillon Thieneman a lot, but this class has some good ones. Just like you I am looking forward to the finished product on defense.

If people would stop complaining and let him do what he needs. Of course things aren't going to look great, but give him a chance at least! I'm expecting good things with him, thankful they're allowing him to do what's necessary
That's right, patients my young grasshopper, I like the moves Christian Parker has made, it is easy to see he is going to build a bigger defensive line here in Dallas. This is a pretty deep defensive tackle group as well; I believe Parker will get what he wants and needs.

I feel like Parker is a football genius. He truly is a football guy. When I have to Google the concepts he talks about, I know he is the right person for the job. I'm glad we got him as our DC.

I mean I like him, but we don't know what kind of defense he's trying to build really.

It is easy to say the right things. Doesn't matter if your vision doesn't work.
I don't think many fans are blindly thinking he's a great DC without any history or proof of it.

I think why fans are excited or at least optimistic is not because of what he will do, but what he is a part of doing and what we hope he can do.

This team has been following the same gameplan on defense for years. They would bring in experienced (old) coaches who at times had solid to better than average defenses, but none of them were known as great defensive coaches. "Solid" is probably the best compliment you would find to describe them before they were hired.

The end result is this team's defense has been bad for years. Even the Quinn years were heavily compensated by Parsons and the gambling-for-pressure scheme that Quinn ran. It's great when it works, but the moment the Cowboys ran into teams that could block or that eliminated Parsons pressure by double/chip blocking him or running straight at him, the Cowboys defense dropped to below average and absolutely horrible against the run.

The front office has focused on splash pass rushers over the years through the draft and free agency. It's no wonder the team suffered against the run because those guys were brought in for one reason .. sack or pressure the quarterback into making mistakes.

Many fans are excited because they are at least attempting to try something new by overhauling everything.

Sure, it may not work or it may work 2-3 years from now, but even if they have the worst defense in the league, at least it will be for different reasons.

Nolan, Quinn, Zimmer, Eberflus .. those were all the same types of coaches, though I would argue Nolan was the worst and Eberflus was too stuck in his ways. At least Quinn and Zimmer adapted to the players they had some.

What I like about Parker is 1) the defense systems/schemes he's been in, 2) the coaches he has learned under, 3) him stating he has a defensive system but he adapts to what players do best, and 4) details to him matter.

I don't know if he will be a great DC, but the hiring of Parker and the replacements of so many defensive player at least gives fans hope that this defense will be better than last year.

If it doesn't work out that way, then they will be no worse off than we were last year with it because that defense was horrible.

Clown show. Gary was likely going to get cut. Dallas gave up a 4 for a mid level OLB. Now the bots will spin this guy up as prime Von Miller. This organization is a predictable joke.
We will find out what Gary's got when the pads come on, that is as simple as that. I just hope that Parker gets to build this defense the way he wants it, that way succeed or fail, he got to build this defense his way. Then we will know what Parker can do and what he can't. I am surprised that Dallas has not signed at least one free agent linebacker, however. I am hoping for the clown show of Ol Jerry to be a thing of the past with better more sound football related decisions being made overall.

All true.

It's fine to be optimistic, but it's just talk right now. The reality is that they have not actually done anything to make the defense better, with new personnel. The only player from last season they've replaced is Donovan Wilson.

Re the bolded: Nolan said the same thing. "It is really just a personnel decision to get your best 11 on the field," Nolan said. "Outside of that, it's just spacing between the 11 players you have."

There's nothing wrong with be cautious or even pessimistic at this point given 30+ years of failed seasons by the Cowboys.

I have said for years this team has a core problem that cannot be fixed easily or quickly.

That said, this is the first year in a long time that it at least it feels like they're trying something new. That in itself is worthy of a little optimism even if reality (no pun intended) fails to live up to it once the season starts.

They may not be signing or trading for star players, but I never cared about that. I want 11 players on defense that are reliable, do their jobs well, make few mistakes and tackle at contact point, not shoulder hit/slam or chase-tackle.

I think the fact that many of the decisions they have made on defense have been against the norm for them is a good sign.

Not because that in itself makes them better, but simply because the changes make it more possible that they will be.

I’ve heard Gary “ faded “ second half of 25 . Bring Clowney and his 8.5 sacks back as another rotational EDGE to give Gary snaps off keep a fresh set out there as much as possible .
Bring back Clowney on a 2-year deal and sign Herbig from Pittsburgh to a 4-year contract and this defense looks a little bit better pretty quick at pass rusher. Then draft another young edge player, edge can improve here fast, this draft is loaded with talent at the position.
