Jaydon Blue change of pace

What can anybody really expect ot the guy? Even if he puts the work in and impresses in TC (who cares), does anybody think he will split time with Williams? With all the weapons on offence, I see no path to him getting many touches, let alone enough to solidify us saying he's arrived. The only real way to have known if he's ready would have been to go into the season with him as RB1, with Mafa/Davis behind him. There are/will be tons of Vet RB's that could be signed at any point during the season in case he fails/gets hurt

Well said.

We all hope Blue is much improved. But think about this - he was on a Cowboys team desperate for production at RB last year. Apart from Javonte Williams, we didn’t have much. When Miles Sanders went down with an injury, he had his chance. And the coaches were so unsure of his abilities to grasp the playbook, he was barely used.

Let’s see what he can do with an off-season and TC to improve. The ball is in his court. The team and fans want to see him succeed. But speed alone isn’t enough in this league. He has to show improvement.
I think they need to use him is open space more. Such as in the passing game. That seems to be where he excelled more at UT.
He can use his speed and quickness there more so than finding small open space to run through from the back field. Unless he can improve upon that also.

Instead of playing time for whom? Turpin? Flounoy? GP? Lamb? We still need to pound the ball on the ground to protect Dak....maybe the odd gadget play for him, but why force plays with established playmakers already there?

He does not need to take snaps away from any of them. He can come out of the back field or a RB screen. I do not mean line him up at WR all the time when he is in. Some good play action passes. He can also be the check down guy.

Or the play KC runs all the time, he can swing to the sideline within 5 yards of the scrimmage. Such as a Safety Valve pass. Other teams started using it. Even Dallas did few time last year.

Honestly I could see an RB2 getting enough touches for it to matter this year.

Williams last season was 13th in rushes in the league, 5th in passing snaps too. He’s was on the field a ton and his numbers started to slip late and he started to get banged up. With the cowboys having a true investment in him now I could see them more closely monitoring his workload….

plus the cowboys had relatively good health last year on offense…..it might be unrealistic to expect lamb/pickens/williams/dak to all play close to 17 games again. I could see a need to get more RBs down the depict chart involved, especially if the defense tightens up at all and doesn’t turn every other game into a shootout again. Schottenheimer will pound the football in these closer games.

Agreed, but.....I see Davis getting more touches as RB2 than Blue will. If we are to have a healthy Williams all year, his load will indeed have to lessen, but I just can't see his touches going to Blue

You really need to watch the games closer and follow his snap counts.
I follow the game just fine . Schoon has been a drag on the roster since drafted . Watch the games more carefully let me know what he contributes as a # 2 draft pick Dallas can’t replace

I would agree . He’s really the only speed merchant on this team at RB . Malik Davis Phil Mafah are duplicates of Williams hammers .

The opportunity is looking right at Blue. I saw him catch TD passes in college line him up in the slot a LB cannot cover him a safety or corner will have to compensate for the speed .

He made the Giants look bad he had about 70 yards at half with a TD , the Giants were trying to win the game Mike Kafka job on the line , got fired anyway .
You can't teach speed, size and vision....but, when you can teach ad coach many if the other things needed, it's hard to pass up the opportunity with that kind of talent.

He's probably headed for a change of pace on another team's sideline, before his time in the NFL is over.

Just like Shotty said - It is up to Jaydon if he gets on the field. No one else. Can he do a 180? I hope so.

If Jaydon Blue doesn't fully realize that his chances of competing are slipping away in the here and now, he likely never will. At this point in time, I'm hoping he realizes that his chances will be slipping away for good if he doesn't wake up and perform as best he can. His future is really hanging in the balance at this point in time. It's up to him to solidify his future before his time with the Cowboys is wasted before it starts. Right now, he's headed for disaster. Pray he finds the will to prove himself.

I think this is where Schott hiring comes in when you have to figure out ways to get Blue off the bench and being the relief back , change of pace speed merchant . He had 134 carries for Texas senior season in 15 games over 5 YPC and 6 TD’s.

Williams the hammer obviously the feature back pounding the trenches then Blue comes in maybe line him up in the slot or some pitches out going wide let him use his vision to get to a hole .

This is why an offensive person was hired as HC now you have this weapon to be used . And obviously if Blue wants a second contract for bigger $$ in the league he’s got to get it together .
I think its less about Schottenheimer and more about Blue. His approach to the off season and camp will determine if he actually want to be a football player.

Everyone always begged for accountability and when we saw it first hand most people hated it.

I'm impressed with the knowledge and insight some of you guys have. If only Schotty or Jerry saw whatbyou see, we'd just cut him today and save the time.....why bother to coach him up, physically and mentally and see if he can come to camp, and see if riding the bench humbled him and flipped the switch, don't waste our time to see if an off season may have helped him mature physically, many men at 21 years old are still growing, the extra year of physical maturity, could give him more confidence when it comes to taking the hits and punishment that comes with being a RB....why bother...just cut all the players that under achieved. Super Bowl!!!!
Well citing Jerry with his track record doesn’t really support your point very well….im pretty confident the collective knowledge on the board (filtering out the extremes) would field a better team with more postseason success than what Jerry has done the past 30….seriously. Been here too long to think otherwise. And we’d have drafted vastly better, that one isn’t even close….

Blue has 3 years on his rookie contract to get on track. Rookie year was a bust and hopefully he's improving his stock to get in this running back rotation. I know Cowboy fans especially the Longhorn fans had high hopes on this guy but we have to realize that most players don't come into the NFL ready made to make an impact on day 1. I agree it's concerning that he didn't have more touches last year and was healthy scratches in most week but Blue has enough speed to stay on this roster and its up to his work ethic to make an impact. I don't think its the talent that's holding him back but more so his attitude in approaching the game at this point.

In year 2, Blue just needs to be a key piece in Dallas running back committee and show that once Williams comes off the field, there isn't a drastic drop in production.
