Cowboys draft after completion of round 4 impressions?

I'll give more detailed thoughts in the coming hours/days, but in short: honestly? I'd grade it at least B+ or A- so far. Add some value ST/development guys at 218 and UDFA, and I'll be pretty happy.

Lots of players have things to fix. Of all those, strength might be the easiest. An nfl weight room can work wonders. Everything I’ve read about mentioned that, but praises most of his game

I do know that this draft was projected to be a bad draft for OTs. Hopefully this is one of the ones that hits.

There were SEVERAL highly regarded defenders available when we picked that OT. Hopefully he hits. But if not that particular selection is a very costly miss because of the defender opportunity cost.

There were a pack of CBs still there so they took the OT first and then CB and edge. A single offensive player out of six seems to be just what we all wanted and backup OT is a need on this team.

You said you have concerns about Shelton. I’m curious how you came to that conclusion. Did you research him?

When it comes to day three picks, few of us, if any, have 10% of the knowledge of these players and how they will fit Parker’s defense so I just roll with it. I may have some name or player I’m familiar with and like but that’s not a good reason to doubt the experts.

I'm not sure about the corner selection. There were others on the board that didn't have major injury concerns, but his production on the field appears to be solid against SEC competition.

Likewise about the OT. Production looks good against BIG competition, but analysts seem to think strength and balance could be problematic. We needed a depth piece here, but I'm not sure we picked the right one. Time will tell, hoping for the best.

I like the DL from Alabama as a 5t rotational piece. Didn't test well in comparison to edge rushers, but has the size to eat blocks and keep the linebackers clean. Has shown some nice flashes, needs to be more consistent, maybe a new role will highlight his abilities.

Overall, I don't love day 4, but will defer to the scouting team until we see them on the field. Days 1 and 2 look like homeruns. Solid defensive draft. I think we will see considerable improvement on that side by mid-season, if not sooner.

Scott is a nickel safety, not a CB.

When Downs shifts to be the nickel’s what is Scott doing? He’s a good player, but we already have a much better version of him in Downs.
 
Moore is the best pick for Dallas day three . Adds size to the CB room and makes Caelon Carson totally expendable .

I wonder what the plan is with Overton? Is he a very light DE in the 3-4 on passing downs? Is he used only as a 4-3 DE?

I don’t really see him being used as a 3-4 OLB. Hes not athletic enough for that. Possibly used as a specialty player on short yardage/goal line situations?

I don’t hate the player, be has some traits, but what will his usage be? CP must have a specific plan to use him. Otherwise the pick doesn’t make sense.

The reviews on him indicate that many like him and believe he is a very solid player with upside. He seems like the most likely “hit” out of round 4.

i would have prefered keionte scott over the gator....but that florida gator 6'3 and good vs the run.
this draft for me is all about caleb downs.
what a great pick.
if he plays like he did at ohio st....he's going to be great.

The way I look at the draft all the teams got some college players they coveted or traded for. We moved up from the 12 pick to the 11th pick to get Caleb Downs. That part of the acquisition wasn't luck it was a deliberate action getting a high quality versatile safety who can accurately speed read offenses. Christian Parker must feel like he is on Saturn at least third ring out.
 
I measure it based on what the reasonable realm of possible was from a draft position and who was available and this is the first draft in a long time I think we did very well and there’s not a glaring mistake. I did think we would take CB Muhammad from UT in the fourth instead of the CB we took so we’ll see how that works out but the first round was a banger and no second round pick anyway so hard to be upset with it.
Downs was HUGE!

This guy (Shelton) has the potential to see significant playing time, maybe push Steele or Guyton out of a job.
 
With Moore it’s medical until his last year at Florida where he completed the entire year. Coaches weight room medical staff should be a big help to Moore as a pro.

You have Hennessy the FA Tackle from SF Dallas can allow todays 4th round tackle to get started as a pro without rushing him out there.

Loved pick 1 and liked picks 2 & 3.

For the others, the next snap I see will be the first snap I see. I trust Dallas knows how they might fit and what they feel they can coach up.
