Jerry: Overton replaces Osa

Overton will be the 5t in the 3-4. Osa could play that, but he’s a true 4-3 3T. You don’t ideally want to pay good money to a natural 4-3 3T then make him a 3-4 end with less upfield responsibilities.

Jerry is really oversimplifying it but Overton has the chops to be a true 5t so in theory he’s a better fit for the scheme. But who knows if he’ll actually pan out to being better. On paper it’s the ideal positional match though.

Definitely seems what they were going for. I do think viewed as a 4-3 DE he doesn't have as much value as his potential as a 3-4 DE. He just has a lot to prove in that role and may need some sand in his pants before he can.

Overton is a slow-twitch end with impressive power and a consistently rugged demeanor.

  • Strong base and is always the low man into contact.
  • Plays with default ruggedness and resists blocks at the point.
  • Tremendous hip power to uproot blockers.
  • Excellent contact balance and is rarely on the ground.
  • Pops, resets and reloads hands to preserve contain positioning.
  • Appears to have enough strength to battle when playing inside.
  • Efficient footwork to tighten his track and slice inside on T/E twists.
  • Hands are active and aggressive to displace tackle’s punch.

One of the scouts talked about him after the pick and he said that he does have quick twitch and can play outside and 3t pass rushing and also that 4i position which is what they want. So they clearly see a different player than his write ups.

Hard to say. The Ruggedness and power descriptors are what caught my eye.
