News: ESPN: Colts Release Moore

I keep saying it but putting Downs in just one spot in the slot is a BIG mistake,he needs to be used all over depending on the Down and distance so getting a good slot Corner like Moore would be really helpful.

Using him in the slot literally is moving him all over.

He wanted out after they explored trading him.
They explored trading him because he asked them to. They were changing schemes from zone, where he thrives, to more man coverage. It was not that he was upset that the Colts tried to trade him.

"Indianapolis Colts cornerback Kenny Moore II wanted a change of scenery, so he asked for a trade. Now he’s a free agent.

After being unable to find a trade partner and using the draft to possibly find a faster replacement, the Colts released the 2021 Pro Bowler on Thursday to give him more time to find a new team."

I know Lewis had a 10 million price his initial year in Jax
Lewis signed a 3 year 30 mil deal with the Jags, but he didn't count 10 mil a year against the cap.
There were void years involved.
His first year he counted 5.8.
This year his number is 6.5.
Now next year, his cap # is over 12, but they can cut him or extend him to get out of all but 4 of that.
Our FO likes to make it sound like they can't afford players, but they can, they just need to be creative. We are at times, but not to the extent other teams are.

This is a no brainer you need a vet like this to stabilize this year's group with so many young guys. But they signed Durant, so they can't "afford" him.

If you do that too much you end up like the eagles last year and moving forward. They won a Super Bowl this way and the rams as well but most teams aren’t capable of doing it like that, lots of luck involved. And the Jags really aren’t a good team to model your franchise after. Lol.

One potential factor in Moore's trade request is his anticipated role change. The Colts are believed to be leaning toward playing more aggressive man-to-man coverage in their secondary, taking advantage of cornerbacks Sauce Gardner and Charvarius Ward. But Moore made his reputation as a standout in zone coverages. Age is also not on his side as he will be 31 by Week 1 of the 2026 season.

Potential interesting fit for the right price.
I think veteran LB in the middle is bigger need but I am all for checking him out, Parker should get the groceries

i personally would like to see wagner brought in and would love a trade for brooks but i don't see them doing anything else and running with overshown and winters.

They already traded their 4th, 5th & 7th round picks in 2027. I don't see them going to that well again. I think they watch the waiver wire and if Wagner became cheap enough maybe they pull that trigger.

This should be a no-brainer. But, Dak has an 84M cap hit looming and this guy might want to get PAID.

That’s where I remembered the 10 milllion x 3 yrs.

This guy has an interesting career.

He was an undrafted free agent and has played for the same team for 9 seasons.

Moore became a starter in his 2nd season. In 2021 he had his only Pro Bowl season. He had 102 combined tackles, including 82 solo, 2nd on his team.

Typically, when you go down the list of team leaders in solo tackles you have to pass linebackers and safeties before you reach the CBs. It seems he wasn't a liability against the run.

He's 5'9, 190 LBS.

Getting cut has to feel harsh for a guy that played for the same team for almost a decade. At that point he has to be entrenched in the Indianapolis community, his children raised there and going to school with familiar classmates....

Does he want to continue playing? if his family has a vote I would think they want him to retire. Maybe not.
He didn't get cut He asked to be released there's a big difference but yes he's up in age so they should bring him in and just see what he wants not just money see what he has left see which position wants to play see if he's a good fit he has to be a fit for this scheme or it doesn't make any sense.. He's a nickel slot guy and Downs will play a lot there but it'd be nice to have a guy that can play there when you want to use downs as a safety...

Thanks and thanks to everyone else with that information. It's good to know that he requested the cut, I would hate to think he left on bad terms considering his story.

He's not as big as Downs but he would have to be a pretty tough hombre to be able to cover the slot while averaging 64 solo tackles and 84 combined tackles per full season.

Yes, he's an older veteran but when you look at the 90's Cowboys secondaries, you see a great mix of youth and experience. They really relied on some older guys like Ray Horton (32), Bill Bates (31) and Issaic Holt (30).

They brought in additional older veteran free agent DBs such as Thomas Everitt (29) and James Washington (28).

Together with young draft picks like Kevin Smith, Larry Brown, Darren Woodsen, Dave Thomas and Brock Marion, the 90s defensive backfield ranked in the top 8 in both passing defense and INTs throughout the early 90's.
