Should Turpin put more focus on special teams than WR?

Turpin has earned his spot. He will make the 53 and have his usual role.

This is where we disagree . You never get better as a team if you keep guaranteeing spots to guys like Turpin Steele Liufau Bell etc . Every year Dallas should look at its bottom third of the roster and at least replace a few of them .

I do not care.

It’s rare anyone gets to return a football anymore so yeah use him however you want.

Well since Dallas started using Turpin as a receiver more his return averages are down. So I would cut back on using him as a receiver some and let him focus on returning kicks more and see if his return averages improve.
He led the league in punt return yards. But kick return yards was down. A think a great deal of that was poor blocking and penalties. I don’t get why we kept our ST coach

The new kicking rules have really almost taken long run backs out of the game. The late start by the kicking team keeps them more in their lanes and prevents returns . You may as well be satisfied starting at the 30 rather than running it to the 20 and getting a penalty for the customary block in the back. Then you start at the 10.

Dallas has to be creative in finding ways to get him the ball underneath and in the seams where he can use his elusiveness and speed. But with Lamb and Pickens, and Ferguson… it will be tough and unlikely. They don’t seem to practice jet sweeps and screens very much either.
Not true at all and that’s statistically verifiable.

we were 21st in the NFL in starting field position
27th in overall ST rankings and we have a top K and P
why in the world did we keep the same coach?
Did he have pictures of the jones boys and a horse or something?

Seems like he may have had too much on his plate, trying to develop as a WR and losing that focus on his best attribute to this team which is his return ability on special teams. Should he go back to focusing more on that, and not WR? I think a lot of us see a difference in his return ability that isn't what it once was. There's still hope. I'm not saying take him completely out of the offense, but with FLO being our #3 I think this helps! Please give your input!!
Without a doubt

They gave him a big contract. So maybe they felt the need to use him more as a WR. To justify it.
I think he can still be a weapon in the passing game. But maybe limit his plays more.

Has nothing to do with it. He has earned it off his past play. He was 2nd team ALL-PRO just last year.

That’s why Dallas is stuck in mediocrity . Steele Bell Liufau Mingo Carson should all be gone and Turpin seemed to get kickoffs to about the 27 everytime and was of little threat in the passing game

I would expect that his returns dropped off more because of the return team than any lack of focus from him.

Do returners even get much practice in returning?
I can see them getting lots of practice catching punts and kicks, but I assume they don't get a lot of 11 on 11 return practice.

Either a player has return skills or he does not. Kick and punt returning is pretty simple.
I'm sure there is some kind of initial ramp up as you learn to see full return squads, but Turpin is well past that initial learning period clearly having learned.

I'll think there's a problem with him as returner when his speed drops off.

Turpin's QB rating when targeted was 109, a significant jump from his 82 in 2024.
Turpin was an effective receiver and probably hasn't reached his ceiling yet.
Keep developing him at WR.
