How good are Cowboy going to be this year?

How in the world can you say Q/Clark/Thompson/Gary/Durant/Winters are not huge upgrades? All are proven NFL players. And then add in the promising rooks and promising 2nd year EZ. Massive, massive upgrades
Where did i say that?

Heck some of you are really funny.

Point is a very poor way to judge a D, as there are too many factors that can't be attributed to the D. TO's and field position and STs, to be clear.

OK, listen. We went from 32nd to 30th. No one is saying it's a huge jump, but it was easily a jump. Our pass rush and CBs and Ss still sucked, so the improvement was minimal of course, but at least teams could no longer run up a gaping middle unhindered as they were.

Q/Clark/Gary/Thompson are all top 10 players. I'm guessing at this point that you just don't want to see it, because it's blatantly obvious that we've upgraded. Only question remaining is how much.
We should probably just agree to disagree.

He can't do it all by himself. He rarely, if at any time took over a game for defense. Except maybe against a very weak offense and QB.
I mentioned 2 players. Everyone else is making it a Micah thing.

I don't know how you can say we've made an upgrade.

We have signed a completely unknown and unproven, first time DC to lead the staff. Made one somewhat note worthy addition in free agency and had a draft.

I'm not saying that CP won't work out or that we won't improve but knowing this team/organization the way I do... I'm not buying into anything until I see it on the field.

What reason would a long standing Cowboys fan have to be optimistic?
I don't see how you can't say it. Huge huge upgrade in player quality. I think you're putting too much on the DC w/o considering players.

Right here, sir.
I asked him an honest question. Just out of interest to get a feel of who Big Dog is. There was no ulterior thought involved.

If i think the guys we picked up during the offseason are trash or are very good or whatsoever i will write it down strikingly ;-).

To add to thr topic: No i dont think we made massive upgrades. We upgraded but not massivley. Right now i think the new players we gathered are a minor improvement to the defense we sported last year. I may change my opinion during preseason games when i see how those players actually are used in the new scheme and how the drafted rookies develop.

The biggest chance for an upgrade is the new DC. But that has to be seen first also. The guy never was DC before. All those accolades as an AC are worth squat if he isnt able to be a good DC.

I hear ya but I think KSKBOYS presents a sound argument we have upgraded personnel on defense . And has stated in several post how much is yet to be seen along with will it be enough to make the impacts we need.

I’m not sure how anyone can argue we haven’t upgraded personnel . Not only in FA but draft. It’s left to be determined how much. I think that’s a very fair stance cause no one knows how much it’s improved until it begins to unfold on the field .

But it certainly provides us to be be looking forward to see how it does unfold and progress obviously with cautious eyes. Surely after last year’s historically futile performance it has to be better.

Jerry is still the GM, so what "hope" is there in that? Is he magically going to field a deep playoff run team, something he has never done before?

It just isn't going to happen. Period.
Not much but it’s all we have. I get not having any hope at all. Mine are very slim as well. But ultimately however dysfunctional and toxic Jethro is there’s always the possibility we get a little lucky and or have enough talent along with rest of division or conference being down in order to kick down the door this era.

And you’d be pressed to find a bigger critic and hater of our ownership this era. But a few years this era we have come close to kicking down that championship game door.

It’s possible. Remember the dream team the eagles assembled when they acquired Nandi?
Nandi was one player. Entirely different situation.

We added several quality players. The closer parallel would be Cincy adding Reader/Hendrickson/Ogunjobi/Hilton and that put them in the super bowl. And they let their CBs walk to do so.

Fair enough, but the question reeked of ulterior motive. I will accept that there was none, however!!!!!!

Now, this is wildly ironic and funny at the same time. The entire argument was based on the upgrades as you staunchly denied saying anything about it. Sooooooooooooooo, then you deny it again!!!! Dude, you are cracking me up!!! I think possibly that you are getting caught up in simple semantics. Since I've already answered and lined out the upgrades, no reason to do so again. As they say in court, "Asked and answered!!!!"

And no, the biggest chance for an upgrade is absolutely not the DC. How in the world do people on a website constantly discussing sports not understand the impact of talent? It's just so weird.

I remember correctly, they signed others besides Nmandi. That’s why it was dubbed the dream team

Well i did say that i think we upgraded personel. Just not massivly. And that was the point the poster made to whom i answered.

I think you think and interpret to much.

And its not that i dont understand the impact of talent.

I just dont see a lot of real talent we aquired. It may be but this is way to early to tell.

I dont want you to repeat your breakdown again. No need for it. All good. And i dont want to type everything down to show why i see it the way i do. This talk about what could be or not or how good these new players are to me is a worthless timesink.

We will see how everything will work out. Right now, as i said also stuff looks at least promising.

Yea, massively is a subjective description. I read into it that it was a massive talent infusion , not necessarily massive talent. We have added many new personnel. Many, massive is in sorts simply semantics. Massive as in numbers.

The fact he reserves judgement to see how it develops and produces to me serves as a buffer as sorts as to how much talent it actually is.But we all read into these descriptions differently sometimes.

I think most of us would agree we have added more talent than we had last year on defense. How much is left to be seen.

At least you acknowledge it looks promising. The rest is probably more semantics that sharp difference of opinions.

What player, outside of Thompson is a known upgrade to our defense?

Can you then explain to me how Q/Gary/Thompson/Winters/Clark are not real talent? All are proven NFL players. We know how good they are. Massive talent infusion.
