Howie traded a 1 and a 3 for AJ, got 3 all-pro seasons, then traded him for a 1 and a 5

Good rental
Thats first is the equivalent of a second. Its a year later.

Everyone always says a 1 next year is like a 2 this year.

Im not saying its bad, but hes losing what 43 million and getting the equivalent of a 2 and a 6 next year. Not exactly ground breaking stuff.

Crazy they got a 1 for him, didn’t think he was worth that at this stage in his career. Nice weapon for Maye
One of the few contenders needing a WR than can afford it, and Vrabel loves him from the time in TEN.

Isnt the value of those picks downgraded because they are in the future?
I think that’s not accurate, but some teams will trade picks with that outlook yes. Do you believe your 2020 1st rounder was worth way more than your 2021 1st rounder?

Yes, but lets all just suck off the guy who lost 43 million in cap and got a 2nd rounder for a stud wr. Thats what we do on this board.

Thats pretty much been the standard, right or wrong. AND the 2027 draft is definitely worth more than 2028 from a talent standpoint.

Yeah I do agree that’s why we didn’t get a 2027 1….

But put them in a vacuum, and First round picks are first round picks. Adding some overlay devaluing to it is connected to what your team’s situation is in that moment. Philadelphia is not in that situation. Take Micah for example, and Dallas is not in that situation. You didn’t get a 1 and a 2 for Micah, you got a 1 and a 1. Dallas was happy a year ago they didn’t get a sooner 2 for that second pick for Micah, they’re happy today they didn’t get a sooner 2 for that second pick, and they’ll be really happy next year they didn’t get a sooner 2 for that second pick. Because they’re not in a forced position of devaluing a 2027 1st.

It’s a 1. A 1 is a 1 is a 1… unless you have to decide it isn’t. Like perhaps New England just did

Yes, there is less predictability in the future (you can estimate where a team will land, better scouting info on prospects, delayed impact of pick on team) so by nature of market dynamics they have been devalued.

I don't understand how the Eagles do it. Getting a first-round pick for Brown at this point in his career is ridiculous. Teams keep losing trades with Roseman and still keep giving him what he wants.

I am surprised they got a 1st though not until 2028.
I didn’t think it would happen. I figured a 2nd at best.

And no, if a late first it is still a first. Not like a 2nd.
NE could fall back to Earth by then, and it could be late teens to early 20’s.

But I’d counter that and say you won’t find too many teams happy to throw away their 2028 1st for a 2nd rounder
This is where the real debate is IMO. I don’t have a great answer but my guess is a few teams would roll the dice on a deal like that.

The spectrum of where the value is in 2027 v 2028 picks will net a wide variety of answers though. I’ve always bought into the theory that if I’m trading back a year I need a round better to start a serious discussion. It would be interesting to go through and review previous trades to see if any obvious trends are there. Would be tough as rarely are those 1:1 swaps though.

Nope.

They have a first round pick. They can wait and use it, trade it to move up next year, trade it for another player, etc.

They got rid of a pain and reacquired reservation what they paid for him.

Yeah

I’m speaking through the precedent of seeing what those “next year devalued” trades turn into. New Orleans traded Philly a future 1, 2, and 3 for the Eagles’ 2022 1st. Philly took Nakobe Dean, Jalen Carter, and Cooper Dejean with those picks; NO has a lot to do without our recent success. It doesn’t even matter who NO took, why would they be happy giving that up just to take their guy a year earlier? I remember in 2008 the Panthers traded us their 2009 first and a 2009 3rd for our 2008 first. They took Olineman Jeff Otah who was okay, meanwhile we sat on our hands for a year and then traded our bonus 1st rounder in 2009 for Jason Peters. Why was that the lesser value? Again, doesn’t even matter what Jeff Otah turned into, all Carolina got out of it was 1 year sooner of a player.

Part of it is a matter of perception, but I think a lot of it is greed and GM’s who can’t keep their hand in their pockets.

They got their number 1. That sure as heck isn't because Brown was worth it. He's 29 and was less than elite last year. The patriots are going to regret this in 2028. Why did the patriots overpay? I said this before because the Eagles are going to swallow a bunch of money and the.trade was more about the money the patriots will save on him than his performance on the field. As for the patriots it's a hoping game that last year was an anomaly.

That’s what people aren’t seeing. They think this is next years pick. It’s two years from
Now which is like you said equivalent to a 2nd round value wise.
The Eagles could have traded him for a 2nd round pick next year if they thought they were equal value. You think they'll give that first up for a 2nd rounder next year? Not likely, and I don't know what team would.
