I'm going to take Bob Lilly and Randy White is defensive tackles Harvey Martin and George Andre as defensive ends

Jones Haley Pugh and Lett definitely a good second team.

I am a little conflicted about too tall Jones as his height created serious problems for the quarterback. Might want him on the first team.

Nice to just remember back when the defensive line was such a strength of this team hopefully we get a little bit of that this year.

I have loved the legendary, larger than life Too Tall Jones since I was at the 1974 draft when he was the first player picked in the draft. His effectiveness was not always reflected in stats, as he altered opposing QB's throws, blocked so any passes, and stopped QB's from throwing. But the first team DE has to go to the only Cowboys with 20 or more sacks in one season, Harvey Martin and D Ware. Harvey Martin in 1977 had 23 sacks ( Cowboys' team record) in 14 games. He was simply unstoppable and was the NFL MVP.

Don't forget the Hail Mary game in December 1975. The Vikes got the ball back. Too Tall closed out the game with two sacks. He looked like a man among boys. His arms looked as long as a giraffe's neck, getting around the OT and taking down Fran Tarkenton for a Cowboy ecstasy.

I love me some Tolbert, but I'd have to take Jeffcoat or George Andrie.

Jeffcoat would be in the HOF if he'd been on better teams. Most people don't even know he had 10.5 sacks for the 92 super bowl team.

I believe the thinking was that there were just too many receivers to take 88 out of circulation, and 54 could be worn by a defensive lineman, offensive lineman or linebacker. I believe that's primarily why 33 was brought back as well. You usually carry a lot of defensive backs, especially to training camp. Of course, the argument could be that 22 should have been brought back for the same reason.

Now that players can wear any number including 0, I don't feel that any of these have to be used any more. You carry 90 players to camp, so that means up to nine could be retired since we don't give out 100 or 00.

However, I do think Jerry does like the tradition of passing 88 down to the next great receiver. I don't mind that tradition, but to me, you should have to earn those numbers. For instance, we've had two great pass rushers to wear 94. I think a player should be able to only switch to that number after showing greatness.

Yeah he does, but it’s a bit of a disrespect to Irvin to do that for Aikman and Smith but not him.
