How many do you think will happen and which ones? I can see all 3 happening!

Three bold predictions for the Cowboys that might actually come true in 2026

The Dallas Cowboys enter the 2026 season with something they haven't had in years: genuine optimism surrounding both sides of the football. After an aggressive offseason that brought in defensive coordinator Christian Parker, added playmakers like Caleb Downs, Rashan Gary and Cobie Durant, and kept George Pickens on the franchise tag, expectations are rising in Dallas.

Of course, every NFL season delivers surprises. Here are three bold predictions that sound ambitious today, but have a realistic chance of becoming reality.
  • Caleb Downs wins AP Defensive Rookie of the Year
  • George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb become the NFL's best receiving duo
  • Donovan Ezeiruaku finishes with double-digit sacks
If even two of these predictions come true, Dallas won't just be competing for a playoff spot— they could find themselves among the NFC's true contenders in 2026.

Caleb has the best chance by far.

What constitutes best duo?

Eze I'd bet against that and be fine with being wrong but no way do I see that

I could see 2 of the 3 happening.
It would be a surprise if E gets double digit sacks.

I'm sorry, but......

"A realistic chance of becoming reality"?

I mean, how realistic can reality become.....really?

Anyway, moving along.....

A player taken in the top half of the first round might be defensive Rookie of the Year.....which basically happens almost every year.

I wouldn't go so far as to predict Downs as the DROY. Considering the unpredictable and random nature of NFL injuries, particularly to rookies. That is a bold prediction in terms of durability.

However,

I think a less bold but more probable outcome would be for the DROY to come out of the NFC East. Three of the top five defenders drafted went to that division. With the addition of Lawrence, the Cowboys 2nd pick in the 1st round, four of the 13 defenders taken in the 1st round goes to the NFC east.

Predicting that the DROY will come out of the NFC east division is just shy of a stone cold lock.

A DE, the 2nd player they picked in last year's draft is going to have a big jump in production.

Well, actually, this might be rather bold. Did you know that this year's draft was the fourth time in the past five drafts that the Cowboys 2nd player drafted was a DE?

Williams 2nd season was disappointing and Kneeland's was not applicable.

Will Eze and Sam Williams even be DEs this season? In this hybrid 3-4 defense will they be OLBs?

Neither one of these guys are classic 3-4 DEs. They would have to weigh closer to 290 to be one. Similarly, both would struggle in their first season as oversized OLBs.

Remember, Sam Williams didn't play in 2024, he was out for the whole season. I don't believe that Williams was 100% in 2025. This will be his contract year.

A less but more realistic prediction would be for me to say that at least one of these two guys are going to have double digit sacks.

Pickens and Lamb best receiving duo? In what way and is that what we really want?

if Pickens and Lamb both have 1500 yard seasons because the offense was constantly having to play catch up in the 2nd half then this would not be a desirable prediction.

My prediction is that that Pickens and Lamb will both get 1000 to 1200 yards but more importantly, they will double the number of combined TDs from the 2025 season from 12 to 24. In addition, by the end of the season they won't be referred to as a duo, they will be part of a trio.

Caleb has the best chance by far.

What constitutes best duo?

Eze I'd bet against that and be fine with being wrong but no way do I see that
Agreed

Hard to see these two guys being consistent enough over the full season. Plus, if we are running it a lot which we should hope for, the opportunities are going to be limited.

I could see him having a big jump and the team as a whole generating nice sack numbers but double digits for Eze is on the outer edge of optimism. Possible, but ....

"Caleb Downs wins AP Defensive Rookie of the Year"

Kid has the talent ....... but doubt the Cowboys defense will do well enough to allow him to get it.

"George Pickens and CeeDee Lamb become the NFL's best receiving duo"

Probably ....... but this will just be an opinion and not a real stat

"Donovan Ezeiruaku finishes with double-digit sacks"

Doubt this happens

I'm not sure how bold those are. I'd say Downs is one of the favorites and CeeDee and Pickens may already be the top receiving duo to most people and definitely are to me, so why is that even on this list. EZ is a bold one.
