Twitter: Will McClay talks about drafting Caleb Downs

After the draft McClay said they thought the Giants would take him.

The Giants really messed up.
They are actually playing the OL they took at 10 at guard. I figured passing on Caleb was about getting a left tackle, but hey ok. Thanks……

Yeah he will eventually make the move to tackle…..great prospect…I would’ve waited honestly especially since I have to put him at guard.

I was just surprised to hear that they passed on Caleb for someone that needs to start out inside.

I was also surprised that Styles went before him.

Behind Caleb at 11, I do think NY got the best value in Reese at five. Man if they also took Caleb at 10 and we didn’t get him, I’d be a little depressed right now. The bad news is I’m wrong sort of often lol.

Let’s see, but we have something to look forward to for certain.

Yeah I think they just had to fix the offensive line and asap. They improved it a lot.

It’s just rough how do you make a Dart friendly pick and ignore offense? I would’ve doubled up and took Downs and took a guard later.

I preferred Styles over Downs because I wanted a linebacker but I do think Downs was a better prospect.

What a pick! Will is a genius! He took the best guy with the 12th pick. What a genius!!!
You would be surprised how many GMs don't do that.

Most of the time, when Stephen and Jerry dummy in to a really clear-cut BPA, they don't overthink it. And those picks have been some of our best players. Think Martin, CeeDee, or Parsons.

I know...we needed a stud in the back 40.

But if we had picked a true stud LT, or like say noseguard (not even sure that's a real position these days).....I'd'a been okay with it.

I really hate that I said yet another 1st round offensive player. Did I really just say that? Take Caleb....easy call...and find another option to fill LT. We didn't.
