I believe his thinking it's either now or never........challenging teammates to raise their standard.

Why Dak Prescott Thinks Talking Openly About the Super Bowl Is Best for the Cowboys

As he begins his second decade in the NFL, the starting quarterback for America’s Team talks to Albert Breer about confronting expectations. And his head coach loves it.

‘Why is it, honestly, such a big deal even saying it?’

Maybe because you go into this mode whenever the playoff starts

It all starts and ends with him, you're the leader, lead!!!! No more looking like you're still a rookie or 3rd year player at certain moments in the game

Dak seems concerned about his chances to get to be a Super Bowl candidate once and for all. It's high time for him to at least prove being a Super Bowl candidate. His concern is well founded from the looks of things. It would likely appear to be that at this late point in his career, it's either now or never. I can easily imagine that such a concern is a valid one to hold. It's very late and the clock keeps running!

Per the article:

“I mean, people ask me all the time. A lot of times they ask this question, [and] they expect a ‘No, not at all’—Did you ever expect your life to be like this? And I go, Damn near to the smallest detail. Like, I’ve had cars that I’ve only got because I said I’d have them when I was 7 years old. So to say I was going to be a Super Bowl champion and play like this, that’s also something I said. So why don’t I own that as much as I own other things?”

This is a poor analogy for self-validation. Numerous professional athletes desire dream cars as kids. They make their dream come true through hard work and dedication, regardless of whether or not they achieve outstanding career achievements.

In pro football, winning it all is not sitting down with a Rolls-Royce dealer and having them custom order one for you from a factory. The desire is akin to the product of one guy, sought after by people from around the world, who has ONE shop where he builds a masterpiece, each part crafted by hand, from the ground up. Buyers do not ask him for an estimated delivery date. They do not even ask what the final bill will be. They live for something only they will ever own. A one-time original, made by one set of hands, that is not a copy owned by anyone else.

That is what seeking to win a Super Bowl should mean.

People either run to Dak Interviews, or people run away from Dak Interviews.

Thats pretty much what he says every year at this time

Even when a person achieves what they set out to, usually the journey isn't nearly as straight forward as they imagined and there are all kinds of details you never dreamed of. He may have gotten the brand car he dreamed of at 7 but it most certainly was nothing like that version. Did he imagine going into his 11th year never having sniffed a SB? So no, I don't believe the details are anything like he imagined.

He says he wants to own the expectation of being a SB champion. Cool, I can respect that but leave out the tortured analogies about possessions.
