Is the Cowboys offense "overrated"?

I don’t think the offense is overrated. Some of the issues you bring up are real, that said. The cowboys offense is legitimate top 5 in the league even with those issues.

No offense is perfect. We can’t expect them to score 30 points every game. It’s just not realistic. That’s why we need a defense that can actually play.

Good points but the Detroit, Minnesota, and Chargers games made me question Schotty as a head coach and offensive coordinator. Detroit got physical with our receivers and knocked CeeDee out. Flores put Schottty in a clown suit. The Chargers shut our offense out in the second half. Let’s hope the offense toughens up this season and our coach makes adjustments. Denver game was concerning as well especially when Surtain was injured.
That's not Shotty. That's every offensive coordinator since Dak arrived. What's the common denominator?

Linehan, Garrett, Moore, McCarthy, Shotty... How many does it take?

Just my opinion, but the backfield hasn't proven anything. The O line hasn't either. This franchise, year after year, falls miserably short in one position or another. Be it injury or whatever. 3 decades of losing causes some fans to lose confidence. Hope is not a tactic.
So last years running success even after JWill was injured doesn't count as proof?

Injury is a factor at every position & every facet of the game. All analysis of any player or team success is given with the injury caveat.

We keep on hearing how the Cowboy offense is elite, but yet there were games last season where they truly underperformed:

14 points at Chicago-yes they lost Lamb early, but if I remember Chicago had a banged up secondary
20 points at Philly-they were shutout in the 2nd half where their defense only surrendered 3 points
17 at home against the Cardinals-there is zero excuse to lay an egg at home against one of the worst teams.
17 at home against the Chargers-Chargers dominated them

These are just a few examples. Everyone keeps on talking about the defense cause it was so bad, but the offense deserves some criticism as well. They must be more consistent or it won't matter how the defense performs.
I think Dak and the offense numbers are overrated. However, the pressure Dak was under with an avearage OL and Constant pressure to help a horrendous defence:
; his 10 INT was exceptional.

If I'm putting a championship caliber team together, I expect more than 75 yards a game.

......I've never heard Elite, so that's confirmation bias.

I understand they are in top #5.

GP is going into 2nd year as cowboy. I see him projecting better.

The GOTI idea, probably came from Dak as he might be thinking, "Wow, this offense could really be something".

Over-himself? Maybe. Excited? Probably.

Lets hope for best in 26'.

Sometimes you have to look behind the hood so to speak, yes, they were highly ranked, but had struggles at times throughout the season. I think they have a solid offense, but not elite like many are throwing around.

Even Elite offenses can struggle against better defenses . And we know Dak has history of struggling against better defenses. All normal stuff.

Great offenses normally run up their impressive stats against similar or lesser teams and defenses. And fortunately there is usually more of them than better ones .

And why our fortunes have changed in playoffs cause there is generally better defenses and teams .

I think our offense is good. And probably good enough for more success with an above average defense .
I agree, but they had struggles against poor units as well like the Cardinals.

The Cowboys offense is elite with Dak, Williams, Cee Dee, Pickens, Booker, Smith, Beebee, etc. When your defense is so bad it carries over to the offense. Less TOP sometimes, and just being demoralized. Also, they didn’t have a LT last year.
No doubt defense played a role why they had some struggles, but they also needed to carry the team and failed to do so.

there is ups and downs in the NFL every season, for every team. you can literally do this for every team in the nfl (with a very very few exceptions)

part of the issue was the defense, just giving up points so easily and making the offense one dimentional often.
but for example, seahawks were 3rd in scoring, but had similarly 4 games they scored less than 20 (won 2 of them because of their defense)
rams were top scoring and had two games scoring less than 20 (won one of them because of their defense)
similarly bills who were 4th in scoring had 4 games scoring less than 20.
lions had 5 games scoring less than 20, including one against those very chicago bears you mentioned above. and they won that game. because of defense.

are they above criticism? no. absolutely not. but I don't think that's the right approach, thinking they should score a ton every game. that rarely happens in the NFL (2013 Broncos and 2007 patriots for example, both of whom lost in the superbowl because they couldn't score).

They were only down 24-14 after the 1st half vs the Bears last season. The Bears only put up 7 pts in the 2nd half, and the Cowboys vs a D worse than ours put up a big fat nada. The Philly game had similar outcomes....Cards game had similar outcomes...Chargers game? Only down 21-17 after the 1st half, again put up nothing in the 2nd while the D only gave up 10.

Your failure here is that you put your thin skin up when somebody dares to challenge Dak and our offence, and you just have to blame our D for 100% of every loss. This thread was NOT about the team's D, but the failure of the 0 in specific games last year where they combined to put up next to no pts in the 2nd half, with 2 of those games vs teams with horrific D.

Outside of your usual reply that only haters like me say stuff like this, do you have anything to contribute to this specific thread in particular?

For the season they averaged 125.6\game. Not sure what stretch you are looking at to see 75. Either way, I also suspect you would want the passing game & the scoring to be better also for a championship team during that stretch.

Barring extreme injuries, I will personally assure you of more than 75\game for the season. If they fail to deliver that, I'll send you $100. How's that?

The Rams had 4 games where they scored 21 or fewer points. They went 4-0, including a playoff game.

The Seahawks had 5 games where they scored 21 or fewer points. They went 3-2.

Your offense is going to have a few hiccups and slow starts. Defenses need to keep the team in the game.

Bears game was 14-14. Defense gave up a Field Goal, TD, TD. 31-14 just like that.

Arizona we were down 27-17 and driving deep into Arizona territory when we fumbled the ball. Offense wasn't terrible ... just very overaggressive. Turnover on downs twice, we lost 2 fumbles both around the Arizona 30 and missed field goal. Defense wasn't awful nor was the offense. Just made too many mistakes.

Chargers game the defense really struggled to make any kind of stop. 7-0, defense lets them score in 6 plays. 10-7, defense lets them score in 7 plays. 17-14 defense gives a up a 16-play drive. 3 drives and 21 points.

This is mostly nonsense but it's hilarious that you think the Bears had a worse D than the Cowboys last year.

Just absolutely 0 evidence to back that up.

Good point about the Rams offense as they are considered an elite unit, but cannot compare the Seahawks as their defense carried that team for the majority of the year.
