Is the Cowboys offense "overrated"?

We keep on hearing how the Cowboy offense is elite, but yet there were games last season where they truly underperformed:

14 points at Chicago-yes they lost Lamb early, but if I remember Chicago had a banged up secondary
20 points at Philly-they were shutout in the 2nd half where their defense only surrendered 3 points
17 at home against the Cardinals-there is zero excuse to lay an egg at home against one of the worst teams.
17 at home against the Chargers-Chargers dominated them

These are just a few examples. Everyone keeps on talking about the defense cause it was so bad, but the offense deserves some criticism as well. They must be more consistent or it won't matter how the defense performs.

The offense was ranked 3rd best in the NFL last season. I'll take that kind of overrated every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Last I checked, our offense played against other highly paid defensive professionals from other teams.

Remember the second Eagles game? The Eagles were the reigning Superbowl champions and they had a 21 point lead on us. We came back from 21 points down and beat that Eagles team with an "overrated offense" and a 32nd ranked defense.

You care to explain how a team with a overrated offense with a 32nd ranked defense comes back from a 21 deficit and beat a Superbowl caliber team? Can't wait for your response.....

well, that isn't what you said to begin with. you included the OL in your concerns and then you said 125 wasn't playoff worthy.

either way, no one can argue with the "proven" part of your concern. we only have good showing thus far from all our other backs as hope that they can prove themselves.

we were just having an exchange of thoughts. why act like I was responding from feelings? I backed up the things that could be proven or at least why their was informational base for my thoughts.
Wrong. I said "If I'm putting a championship caliber team together, I expect more than 75 yards a game." Meaning: Williams!!!

YOU brought up the team. It's that simple. I don't care what point you want to make from that. I do not feel 100% on Williams taking the load in year 6, with scraps for reserve. And, same with the O line, it lacks depth.

K?

Yes, Cowboys were shut out and a lot of games last season during the second half
That’s because we couldn’t get any time possession, that was significant enough to get the ball back enough, thank you defense, and anybody who thinks it was just the offense, they don’t know the game of football
Exactly... 9 games where our defense allowed 30+ points, 3 of those 9 were a 40 burger.. That many points equals a lot of time of possession for the other team..

you comments got questioned by multiple people so now you are lashing out.
Not confident in the run game or the O line if I'm being honest.
This was your first comment and the one to which I responded. You are simply trying to muddy the waters rather than admit all you've got is unfounded angst.

That game would of been long over if the Eagles offense did anything.

If you could look at the gameday threads in the games mention above, OL play played a huge factor into what the offense produced. Key sacks/pressures on 3rd downs that resulted into a punt or a field goal.

Philly game, was a game that I thought we had a chance to win that game against a stout defense. Lamb went for a buck 10 but was forced fed the ball by Dak also had way too many drops in clutch moments. Pickens had 4 targets was a head scratcher.

Chicago game, Lamb got hurt on what many of us would considered just a bonehead play from the coaching staff. Dak had 2 picks & 2 sacks and faced pressure all game where he had to rely on Ferg for short dump offs and seam routes. I believed they pulled Dak in the 4th quarter and put Milton in. This game made us realize that this defense was in trouble, especially when Russell Wilson lit them up the week before. Schotty called out Dak without saying names but we was too busy fussing at him for putting Lamb in the backfield. lol

Cardinals game was worse than the Bears game. Dak was sacked 5 times and Ferg's & Williams fumble, Pickens unsportsmanlike penalty. Everything that could have gone wrong--did. One touchdown & FG on offense and a block punt from our defense Marshawn Kneeland.

Chargers game was fairly competitive until the second half. 3rd quarter 10 yard penalty put us behind the sticks, eventually punt because of 3rd down due to pressure on Dak. CD had a false start penalty eventually drive stalled. Next drive Cooper bebe false start penalty put us 3rd & long, drive stalled. Milton fumbled on the next drive, Chargers ran out the clock.

No offense is going to be perfect, there will be screw-ups with bad plays sprinkled in but in order for this offense to be elite our OL & offense has to eliminate the bonehead penalties and keep pressure off of Dak. Not saying Dak needs 6 seconds in the pocket but he or any quarterback needs to at least go through 2 progressions, which I didn't see a lot of that in key moments of the game.
The OL is an issue and could prevent this offense from making it to that next step.

No doubt defense played a role why they had some struggles, but they also needed to carry the team and failed to do so.
They averaged 30 pts a game. But they did struggle in the red zone so you’re correct about that. They’ve apparently made that a focus of the offense during this offseason and now training camp. I wouldn’t worry about them too much. The defense and culture have been where the issues lie. Both have been under reconstruction for the last 2 years and I think we’ll see some good results this year.

Easy to make this observation in a vacuum., but unless you do this same analysis with other top 5-10 offenses. Without it, you have really no way of knowing if they are overrated or not.

They were only down 24-14 after the 1st half vs the Bears last season. The Bears only put up 7 pts in the 2nd half, and the Cowboys vs a D worse than ours put up a big fat nada. The Philly game had similar outcomes....Cards game had similar outcomes...Chargers game? Only down 21-17 after the 1st half, again put up nothing in the 2nd while the D only gave up 10.

Your failure here is that you put your thin skin up when somebody dares to challenge Dak and our offence, and you just have to blame our D for 100% of every loss. This thread was NOT about the team's D, but the failure of the 0 in specific games last year where they combined to put up next to no pts in the 2nd half, with 2 of those games vs teams with horrific D.

Outside of your usual reply that only haters like me say stuff like this, do you have anything to contribute to this specific thread in particular?
You drinking too much Canadian Whiskey? Red’s horrible year have you down? I have a couple responses in this thread. Not to you. You think last year was all Dak’s fault. You’re one of those and beyond help so I’m trying to ignore those types. I slipped today.

Too aggressive? I think the offense was way too conservative.

They played for a lotttt of field goals.
He had this a couple of times where he talked about "being to aggressive" and "taking to many deep shots" in his play calling last year.

I noticed it. He would get pissed about a bad call or something that happened and he would try to take a shot and it cost us on a number of occasions.

We also settled on occasion for deep field goals last year. Both can be true and not mutually exclusive.

They are over rated only IF they continue in not scoring second half tds and red zone tds. Gaining yards between the 20s without these 2 categories being overcome would continue an over rated performance.

Overcome these 2 things and all of a sudden over rated turns into "genuinely" dominant and not some stats category of offensive ranking skewed by yards gained.

Not a Whiskey guy, actually, but love it on my BBQ ribs! Reds suck, and have awful ownership who don't care about winning and are using the potential strike next year as a way of pretending 2026 didn't exist. My friend, this thread was not about last year being Dak's fault, lol, it was about if our O is overrated. Don't look into things that aren't there. My point was that we pointed out 4 games where our O did not show up for 4 games in the 2nd half, which is no debate. At some point, you may actually believe that I like Dak, and that he is hardly our biggest problem with this team. I am a company man, and there is no debate that it is a team approach, both wins and losses. If you want to prop up Dak, then great, but ya better prop up the 5 beasts protecting his ability to walk as well....and the guys carrying the ball and catching it kind of help as well.

Bozzo the clown stuck his beak into a conversation that he had no business doing....I actually found somebody who gives me a rash more than you, lol

Sometimes you have to look behind the hood so to speak, yes, they were highly ranked, but had struggles at times throughout the season. I think they have a solid offense, but not elite like many are throwing around.
For years the Cowboys offense feasts on bad NFC East teams like the Giants and Commanders. Then get exposed by the 49ers and Packers in the playoffs. I agree with your points.

Dallas scored 30 points and had 400+ yards on the road against Detroit.
Dallas scored 26 points and had 400+ yards with two missed field goals against Minnesota. It was the most yards Minny allowed and t-4 most points.

I don't understand the appetite to just make things up.
I will never understand how you just look at stats and not the game. Minnesota, Detroit, and the Chargers defense held our offense down. Against Detroit we were down by double digits for most of the second half. Minnesota defense was the reason we lost to the Vikings. It’s funny how you left out the Denver loss.

just caught the true you, "beyond help". I take back my praise of you....think I found 2 clowns on here to use that "ignore" button finally. Congrats
