This has been my issue for years since we had Pollard. Does anyone else feel that we don't utilize enough runs to the outside, vs continued runs up the middle with our more quicker running backs?? I know you can't run every play with a toss play to get the back out in space, but we don't seem to even think about it. I'd like to see them get a guy like Blue out on a RB toss run play and see his speed. With that said he has to have patience to set up his blocks and not just run right through. Does anyone else feel that we don't run enough to the outside? Please give your input

fyi, Schotty addressed this in the postgame press conference – said we were trying not to show much, so the runs we are all inside...he was explaining how Blue actually did better than his stats suggest.

Yeah, I'd like to see more of it. The data doesn't exist—hard to believe in this day and age, but it seems like the vast majority of run are between the tackles, and when you draft someone like Blue you'd think you'd have plans to utilize more tosses and the like. But even if not, they seem to be emphasizing their desire to reestablish the screen game so, if effective, that would do the same kind of thing, in a way.

Let me help you:

Rate our middle OLs, OGs and OC: 9 of 10
Now rate our OT's: 4 of 10.

We have one guy who can run block at OT.

Up the middle is exactly where we should be running.

Running to the outside will get your first downs,
Running up, the middle will get your touchdowns

Are you basing this on what they have done in PS games so far?
Seems to me they are testing what they can do running up the middle more so than what they know they can do going to the outside.

Remember Bill Parcels said, and I am sure other coaches do this also.
Sometimes they call something just to see what they do. As it is no where close to what they would do in as real game.

He really does. I haven't seen this speed he supposedly has. He looks like a guy who runs a 4.4 in shorts, but a 4.6 w/ pads on.
Not always going to see speed from a player running up the middle.
Maybe he needs to be a bit more patient with the blocking, waiting for the hole to develop.

We should.

When Blue gets through the LOS, he hasn't shown any burst beyond average. And he goes down if a summer breeze hits him.

There’s the answer. Guess I don’t need to bother lol.

Or burst. Which has shocked me greatly this preseason, as that's the thing I thought he did have. Maybe he's just hesitant, don't know.
I think just hesitant in some cases, needs to be patient in others.
The one screen pass where he gained about 12 yards or so, he showed some quickness and speed until the hole closed up. That was not on him or blocking. Defenses are allowed to make plays also.

I thought the run game in particular this pre season contained no tricks no treats the HC & Adams played it close to the vest not wanting the Giants to have any film .

Having said that Anthony Smith had two jet sweeps gained nearly 20 yards these two games combined . One well planed block the man is off to the races I’m hoping he’s PS and gets a future in Dallas at some point .

Mafah TD he had nice vision to cut back outside and get to the end zone .

First of all that's because it's a power run game This is mixed with some new modern techniques but this is what Schottenheimer's offense is and they do more motion and more behind the line of scrimmage type plays to try to open those things up..

And I wouldn't mind seeing more of that I mean you have to still trust that Schottenheimer is running the offense with Adams and this is what they do not every team's the same so if they're not satisfying you I don't think that they care about what fans think they had a very strong run game last year Yes I would like to see more explosiveness come from it but I don't know if you know this but running to the outside will require tackles and tight ends to block better along with wide receivers and what not so maybe in year one it was a little different was getting the offense going with the basics now year two maybe we will see more of that...

And yes pre injury Pollard was very good but now that they try to turn Pollard into a 3 down back he's not that good he's very average I'd call him a JAG right now and no it's not age This is a lot like Kamara these dudes are not to be used like they used Blue last week I know they're just giving him contact making him run through the playbook but in the regular season I do agree with you I would like to see him utilized with his speed and not run between the tackles and the A and B gap I don't want to see that in any game we already have those guys and maybe every once in a while a delayed draw just to trick it a defense cause Blue doesn't run those every week But yes I would love to see more sweeps tosses things to the outside..

Again that's what they were doing with Turpin and to most of our discontent they were using CD lamps for a lot of the same things they were trying to us with motion and like things behind the line of scrimmage but yes in some ways I agree but don't be impatient I believe you build on an offense from year one to year 2 and you need a guy that can do that and yes Blue can do it, But I guess he's still earning the trust we'll see and maybe you're not seeing a lot of this in preseason because it's gonna happen in the regular season they are not gonna open their playbook up for everyone to see.
