Agreed. When I saw the post talking about owning mistakes and "true character" and all that, I thought, "He's a public figure. He has to 'own up' after he got busted." Call me cynical but I think if he could have lied to that cop and gotten away with it, he would have, The Lord be darned. Heats of the moment have a way of revealing character.

Please tell me who, having been caught possibly drinking and driving would not have lied to the cop if they could get away with it. He did lie to the cop by the way. I think most everyone caught drinking and driving would have if they thought they could walk away with a ticket!

He owes an apology to everyone for putting their lives at risk when he got behind the wheel while intoxicated.

I mean he owes it not to drink and drive. The mistake has happened. He doesn’t owe us an apology. It does nothing. He let his family down not us.

I bolded the only thing I agree with. But I do believe that a player can take his time to put together his thoughts and then put out a statement without it being a legal release and insincere. I also believe that people can make mistakes, even bad ones, and try to rectify those. We'll see how that goes for him.

Good letter to the public of owning his mistake but also explaining his circumstances. Believe Romo will be back at CBS eventually.

I agree. He's probably going to be suspended for a couple weeks, but I expect he'll be back. I actually think, once he's back, we might see a better Romo in the booth. I said this in another thread, but it seemed like he had a couple occasions on the call where he sounded a little buzzed.

Now to wait-and-see if CBS stands by their man or kicks him to the curb. If it is the former, I hope it is the type of second chance that will empower him to become a better person. If it is the latter, the situation will be his latest life challenge for him to overcome. Best of luck to him.

It'd be bad PR to kick him to the curb when public sentiment is heavily slanted towards, "they want to get out of paying him all that money." But hey, maybe they don't care anymore as it seems they don't elsewhere so who knows.

I can’t do that though. He’s not a victim here. He got behind the wheel intoxicated. If the guy lost all of his money I’d say that was kicking while he was down. Getting addicted to painkillers and not getting help until you got caught is self inflicted. Getting behind the wheel intoxicated is your own decision.

I like Romo and wish him well on his road to recovery and a return to his broadcasting career.

But long apologies like that, especially when his job is likely to require a legal challenge, are just parroting what the lawyer told him to say.

Ironic thing is I think they are handling it like Cowboys handled him. Just eventually phase him out. Unless Watt is terrible. I don’t see them just taking JJ watt off the air in the middle of the season just like I didn’t see them taking Dak out winning those games. Watt is gonna have to completely bomb for it to be a consideration.

I wonder in situations like these is it more respectful or heartfelt if you do it visually? I kind of felt the written statement does come off poorly as if it was written by a lawyer or pr team.

I agree with you on that. He made a terrible decision. But now we know a little more as to why he was drinking. Living in constant pain cannot be easy.

Romo should have gotten a ride from someone else. Or just done anything but get behind the wheel. That cannot be disputed.

He learned his lesson. I would hope. And as I've said numerous other times, thankfully nobody got hurt.

To me has nothing to do with a former player. He waited this long so his legal team could see what they're facing with trying to save his CBS job.

I have zero sympathy for anyone who drives while under the influence. None.

If he was sincere this would have been posted on day one right after it happened.

A long statement like this was carefully created by someone on his legal team and he signed it.

Nothing sincere about it. Just a public document showing he's listening to his lawyers.

I feel nearly the same way about careless, reckless, and distracted drivers. To make THOSE kinds of choices, on purpose, while knowingly driving a death machine...is also unforgiveable. The aftermath doesn't discern any difference.

Yes...a true honest mistake while following every rule and guideline..can and does happen. But all to often we know these drivers...we SEE them. It's epidemic. Most get away with it so often they don't even think about it anymore.

I'm not entirely sure "hope he gets the help he needs" does anything other than make us feel better about ourselves.

But Tony...hire a - gosh dang - driver. You can afford it and then do whatever it is you need to do to get through your day. Glad nobody was hurt or worse.
